So, what are you getting for Christmas, I'd usually treat myself to something shiny from Axminster, but with the recession and all the uncertainty that brings I don't know! Still think I'd fancy a Li Nielsen block plane...

A decent, quality, bench table saw, Santa might bring me that if I'm real good for the next few weeks :D and I might treat myself to a small planer/thicknesser!

Sounds like you've been very good CroppyBoy, and all I wanted was a block plane!

Yeah, I've seen those, not cheap at €217 and €276 (approx.) Very attractive pieces of fine engineering but the styling is a bit too contemporary for me ( I think), I prefer their standard models! Like the new nickel alloy they're using on the deluxe model though. I ordered my Veritas standard block plane last night, to complete my LV block plane line up.

I tell the missus any expensive tools I buy are in investment, an investment in my happiness- they help me get the job done well and I get much enjoyment out of both their purchase and use!

I don't like the new LV DT saw, works well I'm sure but the purist in me finds it hard to reconcile "plastic" with quality in a saw at least.

Well expensive tools are an investment and a good one too! I have shares which are down 50% since May, but I don't see the price of Norris planes decreasing on Ebay.Anytime LN or LV gear comes up it always gets a good price too, same for any quality tools.

Sounds very good actually, but I already have the smaller DW saw! My LV plane arrived today, no worries about voltage there! Happy days.

No way im selling it. over the next couple of years I cant see myself returning to big site work anyway.

240v would suit for private work.

I am looking for excuses. but could ya blame me. It is a savage saw and much beter than my old DW701...
arrived today. Cant wait to use it. No second fix on the cards for a while. Killing me it is.

A small jointer/thickness planer from me to me :)

Bigstar, have you seen http://www.dick.biz or http://www.fine-tools.com/ for a japanese saw? I ordered a dozuki, #8 jointer plane, #51/2 fore plane and screw clamp set from dick.biz and the shipping for all that together was 15 euro. They both seems to specialise in japanese tools.

yeah i was looking at the fine tools site, thanks alan. i was thinking of the set of a dokuzi and ryoba set. those ryoba saws are one side rip the other crosscut arent they. nice saw gsxr1 i have the older model great saw

    bigstar,
yeah the ryobi saws are rip on one side and crosscut on the other, spear and jackson sell a ryobi saw ( http://www.spear-and-jackson.com/en/predator-pull-saw-double-edge ) but they just call it a pull saw, it is the same concept, replacement blades, two sided etc... So you may be able to find one over here. I have one and it's fine, I use it all the time but don't have anything to compare it to as it is the first saw like that I have owned. You do need to be a little less aggressive with them though, the blades are very easy to kink especially if you pull it to far and it comes out of the cut and then jams against the work on the return stroke. :(

    Hope this helps bigstar.

    ebay seller dewalt-direct

I have not used it for a second fix just yet. But I have been first fixing with it.

very impressed. The high fence is very handy. It has nearly a 12" pull out .

the only thing that has been a slight put off is the lack of brake on the blade . It takes 5 seconds to stop.

Other than that. tis a top quality tool.
