The old thread for this was closed due to the fact it was a roomer at the time and I did not believe it myself.

I can confirm UPC in waterford have began testing Nagra 3. They are also still testing Nagra 2 at the same time but I am unsure why.

They added a new CA-ID (1803) which streams the ECM's to the box to decode which contain the keys to watch TV.

This does mean the end for the "dodge boxes"!!!

I suspect this will get closed too unless you provide a source. Until there is a source it is still a rumour.

I suppose the only source is me at the moment. I have seen it with my own eyes. I suppose there is no way I can proove it. even people would not understand a screen shot if I posted one.

Confirmed on the News at One on RTE radio this lunch time, by Robert Dunn, that UPC are testing a new encryption - to be rolled out in the New Year.

They will eventually move to Nagra3

But as in ireland were always last to do anything.

Nagra 3 has been used in European satellite for nearly a year or more.

yes they said they where testing a new encryption which was nagra 2. everyone has know about this for some time now.

no one cared because nagra 2 would no make a difference. It has been pirated for years.

Nagra 3 however, has never been hacked.

UPC were supposed to have switched to Nagra 2 by March 08 .
They still havent even switched one area over to it 8 months later.
How long does it take them to test an ancient encryption system like Nagra 2 ?
They have been testing it in some areas for over 13 months.

We know that but they'll be useless on Nagra 3.

    Please do. :)

    We weren't talking about HD.

    Please do. :)

    We weren't talking about HD.
A poster said UPC were mentioning dates for events to happen so I think it is a valid point. HD was meant to be next year, yet in other threads it looks like it is not going to happen. Just more marketing lies IMO.

    Just like this.

Sorry for a stupid question but what is Nagra 3 and what does it mean for us customers?

The encryption system uses on the service, for most "customers" it means a shiny new UPC branded box, for "others" it means a loss of serice.

I currently have a UPC branded PVR. Will this need to be replaced?

As do I, I think we might have to get new smart cards, maybe.

I think you're missing the point. If it has never been cracked (I'm not sure now) then no box other than the supplied one will work.

It's an encryption method. It will make no difference to paying customers unless they're breaking UPCs T&C or the law.
