Taking my daughter to school this morning we were upset to find a red squirrel killed on the road.:( Have often seen red squirrels in that area & always feared one of them might meet its end on the road). Stopped to check & must have been very recent - was still warm when I moved him off the road. Such a beautiful little creature & an amazing thick winter coat. Such a shame, they are scarce enough without getting run over.

I hate seeing any kind of roadkill, really, but something like that is even more upsetting. I had a very near miss with a red squirrel coming over the Slieve Blooms a couple of years ago. I nearly gave my passenger a heart attack but I was absolutley delighted that I didn't hit him.
