Hi I am a mac noob with a mail question

Can set up gmail quite easy on Mac

However, it automatically checks mail on running, no password required, Im not the only user of the account. Is there a way to set it so when you run the iMail it asks for user account and password?

    Thanks!

Not satisfactorily - even if you don't enter the password in the settings, and have to enter it manually yourself (something that you'd get tired of fairly quickly), the other users will still be able to read the mail that has already been downloaded.

The only serious way to run a Mac for multiple users who don't want to share their emails with each other is to set up separate user accounts.
