Played this last night as it was a toss up between here and the SE game. AS i cant drive at the moment i went local instead.

This was the first time i ve played this monthly game and was a really enjoyable night. Structure very reasonable although a few early blind levels were skipped but the 15k starting stack made up for that. 3 tables with 24 runners I think, with a €5k guarantee prize pool.

€270 buy in and the 2 course meal in one of the nice local Italian restaurants for your €20 reg was well worth the trip. Free wine with the meal too. This is a nice friendly small club and plenty of crack at the table with some very funny Italian locals.

Doke & Rob Taylor chopped this HU for €2k each and I finished 4th for €550 after taking cash for the €100 ticket for any of their Tuesday games. 6 cash prizes with tickets and a €100 ticket for 7th.

Plenty of value if you can be patient...........I ll deffo play this again.

WP Bruno and the Westbury. Nice touch on the food too.

    Jay

In fairness Damo Daragh trebled up with 6 bbs left after flopping 2 pair in the sb and CRAI for 10,500 to a bet of 4k and a re raise to 10k took down the 30k+ pot and went from strength to strength from there.

jebus that's 3 decent live tournament wins for Doke in a week and a bit, not to mention two awards in the poker polls!

I wish I could run bad like him :pac:

I think I figured out how to toggle the doom switch live: whinge post on blog. Since my small sad post whining about running bad after the Winter fest, the poker Gods have been smiling on me, as opposed to cackling evilly. I even won a race yesterday!

Started the FT ludicrously short with 8 BBs. I've done a lot of work offline using game theory, patience and bubble factors and typical calling ranges to devise a strategy for short stack play that's a little different from current orthodox thinking. Without giving too much away it basically involves waiting a bit longer than most before pressing the panic button. I think the "shove with any old sh!te below 10 or 15 BBs" strategy was revolutionary when it was introduced, but since everyone now knows it, it's decidedly sub optimal.

That said, if I hadn't tripled up in that 2 pair hand that Jay already mentioned (BTW, I was BB, not SB), the panic button was about to be pressed.

Also worth noting this was Rob's second chop in 8 days!

great tourney, and lovely dinner thrown on in restaurant at the break.
well done to everyone in Westbury, really nice place to play.

nice to chop with dara again, my 5th time in the westbury with dara and with 2 outright wins and a chop for me, and 2 chops for him, its fair to say we do well there.....

    Hey Dara,

Another excellent result; 3 now in just over a week. Patience, persistence & good play do eventually get rewarded.

    Well done.
    :D

P.S. I like your comments on tournament short stack play above; falls in with what I believe & practice myself.
