Problem using PODFARM in CUBASE SX

    Hi Folks,

I have a query somebody may be able to help me with...

I recently set up my DAW and I have installed cubase SX as my sequencer. I am using a line 6 ux1 as my audio interface. I have installed the POD farm application that came with the UX1 for all my guitar effects etc. This progarm works fine as a standalone application. However, when I load up cubase and go to operate it as a VST, it will not recognise the software as being active...Whilst it is visible in the list of plugins, it is greyed out and I am unable to click in to it and select it

I have tried manually copying the podfarm.dll file into the Cubase VST folder in Program files but this did not work. I then tried copying the entire line six folder over to the same place but this did not work either!!

I also tried to use Guitar Rig 2 in cubase but I am having the same Problem...

What am I doing wrong? Please help, as My Line six interface is virtually useless if I cant use it in cubase!!!

    thanks in advance....

I take it you have the ux1 connected to your recording pc by a usb cable ?

    note
ive tried this with a pod xt in cubase and reaper and it pissed me off so much that I now do this :

1/ connect pod to pc by usb
2/ record pod direct in an audio channell with the required effects turned of ( and adjusted via gearbox )

    3/ avoid fcuking vst .

Yea Ive connected it via USB 2 cable directly to my PC. Its really pissing me off! The reason I bought the damn thing was so that I could record within cubase using all the amp effects etc in Pod Farm!

so Would you mind explaining to me exactly how you operate with it? (Explain to me like im an Idiot Please, Im new to all this!!)

i dont bother with the pod as a vst -

if im using the pod as a soundcard - i set up the inputs in cubase - there should be at least two , into two audio tracks in cubase ,and record the guitar effects as setup on the pod ( using gearbox )

if im uing the pod as effects - then i run an audio jack from the pod out put to my studio soundcard and record that as a chanell on my studio card.

should be something like prefernces - settings - audio settings to choose the line 6 as a soundcard. for recording and playback.

    Some bad news Im afraid.

    - You need to purchase the podfarm plug in licence.

Much like gearbox - You will be able to run podfarm as a stand alone but the plug in licence must be purchased and activated ...

Owners of Gearbox plugin can transfer the licence key from gearbox to podfarm through the line 6 monkey.

Also, if you do get sorted , my advice would be always use the plug in over a direct out of you UX1 , your signal will be much cleaner and the tone from the plug in to my ear always sounds better.

does the plugin use cpu power though ?

didnt realise it sounded better, must try that .

Thanks for the feedback guys! thats gonna be a pain in the ass. is the license expensive? Im trying to get my studio setup on a tight budget (arent we all!!)

I also have Guitar rig 2 at home. would I need to get a plugin license for that aswell? It functions as a standalone fine but Im having the same problem when I try to use it as a plugin in cubase...Its so Frustrating!

Actually, the Line six ux1 advertises that the PODFARM Plugin is included in the package...I bought it from www.musicstore.de

Do I still require the license even though the package is included with the hardware???

    Hey Guys,
    Its all pretty confusing

Plug in will cost ya $49 if you have 1st generation UX1  if you have gearbox PLUN IN its simple to tyransfer over and all your model packs will work

Just to clarify for new purchases , yeah you do get PodFarm plug in with "Pod UX1 Studio" this is basically the UX1 PLUS (2nd generation) if ya get me ... it includes the Plug In finctionality and also FX Junkie pack (previously purchased seperately)

Tony yeah - the plug in does use CPU power, depending on your DAW, performance can vary. When I use Logic Pro is rock solid and its very stable .... I use PT 7.4.2 on the mac book pro and its a little flaky, seems to run smoother on my under powered PC for some reason.

The benefit of the plug in is of course the ability to audition differnt tones with the same performance in track, i.e you dont have to committ to a tone - aside from that I find the signal tends to be clearer when I go dierct from my main card and the tone is processed in the box rather than processed in the UX then processed and then written to track if ya follow me .... if you find the plug in hungry for CPU on your system you could try using SPDIF in which will also give a cleaner/Clearer tone in , again thats just based on my own experience working with it.

Guitar Rig / Amplitube - Should work straight away as a plug in. No additional licencing required if you have the full version installed.

Thanks for all the advice lads. I was playing around with pod farm since my last post. I am now able to work it in cubase BUT only after I have recorded my guitar as a clean raw signal into my project. I am then able to click in the podfarm option in plugins and process the signal to whatever tones I am looking for...its not ideally the way I want to work but I guess Ill get away with it for now...unless theres a way of hearing the signal with the required tone on it as i record??? [thats what I thought I could do when I bought the UX1 in the first place]

You can split your signal out no?

Have you main soundcard going to monitors out and send the UX1 out across seperate tracks....that way you get the clean input into your card and DAW and get a processed monitored signal out of UX...as you said not ideal , personally Id be done with it and pay teh 49 dollars for the convenience

    Best of luck
