Anyone know of any organised cycling events over the Christmas period? I know they tend to be very thin on the ground this time of the year but would love to have something to look forward to - if anyone knows of anything?

    *cough*

    Come to the drinks!

More than likely there will be some form of fixie posturing, but at the very least you will meet some boardsies and talk about bikes and regular stuff.

Will there be spectacluar fixed-gear-freestyling in the park round the back?

There will be cycling up and locking to railings if that counts :)

So there'll be a cycle locking technique critique session before hand, and a locked cycling technique session after :)
Oh oh oh maybe we can do a honeypot sting - still have that Cube tiny? :D

I like the sound of that... leave a fixie poorly locked and wait for someone to bite, them jump out and kill the scanger :)

For any of the Orwell"s,there's a couple of races in Dec,a hamper one and a club league, check their website.

Will be doing the Orwell hamper race myself, but will be in Spain for the league one.

As an aside I mentioned to someone recently I'd be doing a 'turkey race' at Christmas. They asked me, quite seriously, if I was really going to be racing turkeys on my bike.

Some people are just so stupid... hope you set them straight and said that you'd be dressed as turkeys...

Got a flyer for the following event if its a sportive rather than a race you're looking for. Skirts around Mount Leinster rather then taking on the main climbs but still a fairly lumpy route with plenty of hills if you've overdone the Christmas pud. Some of the route will be familer from the Mount Leinster Challenge if you've done that one.

What about the Turkey Race in Carraroe (Connemara) - a very hospitable group of people? I think it's 6 x 7-mile laps. Both race and challenge event. Won by Sean Kelly in 2008

Actually that reminds me, Sean Kelly beat me in that race in 2006. The fact that I finished in about 81st position (I think there were 81 starters anyway) doesn't take from the fact that I can say Sean kelly beat me! Sad I know.
