Hey guys i need some help in relation to magical world of midi. So here the story i want to use my daw (Cubase 4) to select patches on on multi effects unit (G sharp) at certain points in a song for a live application.

We are a 3 piece band (2 guitars and vocals) and for live we will be running backing tracks and in ear monitor mixs from cubase 4 to saffire pro 26 to in ears and FOH.

Now i want to programme a midi track in the sequencer to tell the g sharp when to select certain patches during the songs so i dont need to worry about footswitches. And im not realy sure how to go about it normally i would just figure this kind of thing out on my own but got a gig on thursday and i still have to programme drums and keys for one song.

So has anyone here done this type of thing before and if so whats the quick guide on how to do this?

Any help would be much appreciated.

normally i wouldnt recommend this but you could try ableton.record the sequence to audio and launch it from ableton.

I have no problem with any audio its the midi information i want to sequence. I understand how to programme midi for vsti's its selecting banks and patches im not sure how to do.

The signal chain im worried about is daw... midi out on interface....midi in on g sharp.

if your in a big rush you can probably record the midi out of the effects unit onto a track in cubase, do a run through of the song live switching patches while recording.
then just have it play through your midi out back into the unit at the gig

On page 27 of the manual is a list of Midi implementations for the G Sharp.

Depending on what you want to do you need to drop the appropriate midi message at the appropriate time into your DAW.

If you know how to do it for Cubase for VSTIs it will be the same procedure.

It appears the G Sharp is set to Omni receive (all 16 chans) so you may as well set that to just 1 unused 1 .

Got it sorted i needed to open the midi list editor and from there select contoller changes and programme changes its going to be pretty sweet not having to tap dance live when i want to change presets:D
