New Camera Question

    Hi Folks,

    Just wanted to ask for some advice. For the past 2 years i've been using a fuji finepix S5600. I've learnt a fair bit from using it and the camera has served me well.I now feel i'm ready to buy a new camera and despite reading a lot of info/reviews, i'm unsure what to buy. Plus i'm moving to Canada shortly and from the sites i've checked it it seems that prices are cheaper over there.

    I mainly use the camera for gigs, landscape and portrait shots.

    I've been looking at a Canon 40D and the prices i've come across online for the body came to €879 which is €559 or body plus EF-S 17-85mm f/4.0-5.6 IS USM Lens for $1129 which is €718

    Any advice? Ideally i want to get more involved in photography and am keen to learn

    Don't know about Canada but I've been checking mail order prices for a Nikon D9 SLR in the past couple of weeks and Jessops beats Pixmania and any of the big US mail order website like Adorama or Wolfcamera for cameras, possibly because of the weakness of sterling.

    You can order online on the Jessops website and pick up in Newry, check them out and note that the UK VAT is coming down by 2.5% from Mon. Dec 1st which will bring their prices down even further.

    Thanks for the replies so far

    @coylemj: The price isn't the main focus for me,it's more so i'm looking for advice on a decent camera to step up with.And after reading some of the posts in here the 40D seems like an option.


    @melekalikimaka: Thanks, i'd viewed that thread earlier today.Again cost isn't my main concern as prices seem to be cheaper over the water (even cheaper than uk or up north.)
