Sorry but this is kinda long! And I hope this is in the right place! Apologies if it is not.

Just a reminder that parents and teachers are being urged to march in protest against the cuts in education on Saturday the 6th of December at 1.00 pm outside the Dail. This march is taking place on a Saturday as to not disrupt children's education.

These cuts are an outrage and more will happen in next years budget if a stand is not made. Up to now poorly underfunded school have had to rely on the fantastic support we receive from parents who organize bag packing, jumble sales, book clubs and of course the collection of Tesco and Supervalue tokens to get equipment into our schools.

Class size is increasing. This will effect your child. The staffing schedule is confusing but it is not one extra child in a classroom. It could be and will be an extra 5, 6, 7 children in the classroom. The standard European investment in education is 6% GPD. In Ireland it is 4.6% of GDP.

From January sub cover will no longer be provided without a sick cert. The class will be split up and shared with other teachers. The national average a teacher takes is 1 day a year. Sub cover is not provided for course day cover.

The amount of English language teachers in a school is being capped to 2 teachers max in a schools. How are these children who have come to Ireland with no English expected to integrate and mix with their peers? How is the teacher expected to explain and teach math, history Geo and Gaeilge to these children who cant understand what is being said to them?

From September no grants will be available for families who need financial assistance.

EPSNA ( Education for People with Special Needs Act) has been halted. This act would have forced the government to provide a proper service for children with special needs.

ICT funding, Library funding, resource funding has been abolished.

Mainstream teachers do not receive any grants from the government to buy equipment for children in their rooms.

If you cant march please contact your local TD's. They will want your support next June in the local and European elections.

7000 in Donegal last Saturday. INTO have predicted 80K on Saturday in Dublin. Don't think you don't need to go cos they're be enough there - get in there yourself too. The more people turn up the better chance of reversing these cuts.
