Timewaster Ads

For every ad out there that says, "no timewasters", it seems that there are 10 ads that are POSTED by timewasters.

    Drummer needed.

"Hi, I'm a drummer. Here's more about me...."

"Great, we'll be having auditions soon. Will contact you."

    "Cool".

    Never hear back....

I've encountered many many ads like that. And then of course you have, "Oh, something's come up. Bass player's dog died/can't book rehearsal room/need to leave the country on business."

Folks, before posting an ad, how about making sure you really do want to start a band? The huge number of timewaster ads only ruins the chances of serious people finding band members, as it dilutes applications.

I agree, but we have had discussions here numerous times about this. People reply who have no intention of following through. It's a mystery to me why this is so

Best thing is to take every reply with a pinch of salt 'till you actually meet the person. That way you wont be disappointed.

they probably play bands off each other and join the one they like the most

    This is possible.

Another possibility is that they are f--k all use on their instruments, and when it comes to the crunch they chicken out.

Well it's just human nature, you can't rely on other people to give a sh1t about your baby, sometimes other people involved with the band f@ck things up by not being available or whatever reason, the poster then gets discouraged as he thinks the advertiser is a time waster, when it was down to someone else and not the advertisers fault, but you are right, there are a lot of day trippers on here, infatuated with the idea of how cool it will be to tell some doe eyed girly in the night club that he's "in a band"

I've never seen the point of putting "no timewasters" in an ad, because nobody is going to read it and think, this sounds good, oh wait, im a timewaster, better not reply.

thats nearly as bad as one band who asked me to audition for them and learn 3 tunes for it. So i did, i busted my ass getting them right. Then drove for ages in traffic, got there on time, they were late, had to set up THEIR drumkit so i could audition on it but the real sting in the tail for me was.......they didnt know any of the tunes??!!! I played the songs then left and I never heard from them again, not even a thanks for showing up or whatever....................no that was a HUGE WASTE OF TIME!!

Very frustrating alright. At least they showed up, which is not always the case.

best advice i can give you is this - setup a myspace - and put up even rough demos
/ live / rehearsal recordign so would be members can hear what they may be working with .

and it works the other way around - anyone toting themselves as a muscician should put up
recordigns of their ability - this weeds out alot of the dross.

Wow, I'd say you were livid after that! I have to say that I haven't experienced anything like that with any of the bands I've ever played with. Maybe it's a Galway thing and people are more careful not to mess each other around as they know it may come back to haunt them? It's probably easier to never see anyone again in somewhere like Dublin.

Unless you put in caps, at the top, then it looks imposing and anyone who is flip flopper will just get scared and run away.

I think I'd agree with that. People shouldn't chicken out. I don't think many of us are Steve Vai, Gene Krupa etc.. You have to throw your hat in the ring at some stage.

I agree 100 %. Trouble is some people think they are as good as the names you mention. :D

Exactly! It's all well and good noodling away on your instrument in your bedroom or garage but you will improve a lot more if you do it in a group or in front of other people.
