    Hi all!.

I'm looking for a distortion pedal. It doesnt have to be massively expensive, or tube based, or boutique, or made of unicorn hair. I'm just looking for something that will give me enough gain for pumpkin-esque rhythm without destroying my amps own tone. FWIW I'm using a strat into a JTM45. The distorted rhythm tone here is what i'm going for.

The distorted part kicks in after about a minute i think. Thanks all!.

    Definitely a Big Muff.

That record has an average of 50 - 60 guitar overdubs per song.I would say there is at least 5 playing in unison when that part kicks in.
Weird tuning in that song too.

They don't write them like that any more.Love that song...

Yeah, the whole "modified-jcm-+-4x12-multitracked" thing might be a *bit* of a problem. Dont suppose it comes in a pedal? :D

Hehe, yup!. Mayonnaise is an absoulety godlike track. But 50-60?!.

I knew corgan was a perfectionist but woah!!. He just gained a few more respect points :D.

Thanks for the suggestion guys, i'll check out some muffs. To be honest, i never thought that's what i sounded like!. I was expecting more of a "fuzzy" tone, something more along the lines of a fuzzface. Guess i've been learned good :pac:.

+1 on the tone. Some of the sounds that corgan can get on that album are haunting :).

A JTM45 isn't a million miles away from a JCM800 at all. You need to add a gain stage but it doesn't need to add any distortion in itself - just enough boost to overdrive the input of the amp. A boost pedal would do.
