Got a laptop a couple of months ago with Norton Interent Security pre-installed for 2 months. It worked very straight forward for someone not very familiar with computers. A full system check obviously checked the whole computer, taking over 20 mins. Nice and clear.

However, having now installed Norton 360 things are a lot more complicated and navigation of the system is not as good. The main problem is that its asking me to back up my files on disc, which the previous system didn't ask me to do. Is 360 going to keep asking me to back up my files on disc? because thats going to ask for more time and for a a large supply of dvds which is something i didn't have to withstand previously!. It would also be pointless for me to keep backing up files as very little is ever added to my computer.

I dont have 360, but i do have IS. If you click on the support link on the Norton Control Panel you can direct yourself to their chat support, and they can probably disable the notification for you. Theres no charge for support by the way.

Why did you get 360? Why not get AVG free? And use windows defender and something sygate personal firewall? I use tha setup and have no problems. Thats what i would do.

Well I just got a new IS2009 disc. Cost me $30, 1 Year, 3 PCs. The Disc is bootable for when you want to perform virus scans without executing the windows environment, and it came with Norton Save & Restore 2.0 which is apparently some kind of fancy backup system.

And free 24/7 phone email and chat support, Remote Desktop Assistance, Ever lower resource consumption with every version (They even have some Gamers edition of their AV software now that uses only 6MB of memory: Norton AV 2009 Gaming Edition ), embedded phising protection for IE and FF, Firewall, Silent-Mode and background Scanning, Antispam, Antibot, etc. etc. And unlike AVG, isnt constantly suffering from compatibility issues with Vista.

So yeah. $30 well spent. heil Costco!

I'd agree with the above - it's old news to talk of AVG as a viable AV currently, especially if you want thorough protection. But the other obvious reason for going with 360 over AVG is the lack of features compared to 360, like File Back up, online storage etc etc

Anyhow, re OP - I saw this mentioned elsewhere:
Click on the round backup restore section of the main Norton 360 window. Only once that is clicked will you then find the option to disable backup and restore.

I have a variety of Norton AV and IS packages installed on a couple of my machines at home. My dad had IS installed and then went and "upgraded" (read downgraded) to 360.

Norton 360 is the biggest pile of steaming sh*te I have had the misfortune to try and deal with. IS is configurable, 360 is just an overly simplified, unconfigurable, dumbed down "jack of all trades & master of none" that really doesn't do anything particularly well. Avoid like the plague.
