Awards at end of year for Juveniles

Just wanted to get peoples opinions on the handing out of awards for special categories at the end of the year for juveniles (notably U5 up to U10)?

All the kids get a medal each but our club has 3-4 categories for Best player/Most improved/Best Effort/Best Attendance

Normally I have seen that the mentors kids tend to get all the awards every year as they get voted by all the other mentors. Its a bit demoralising for all the rest year after year.

Is this a good idea or should they try to award them in other ways or if the award system is a good thing, what categories should they be based on?

I really think theres no need for what a lot of clubs go for with regards to handing out medals for fun.

Im 6 years out of the juvenile system.

If a certain team wins a competiton have an awards cermony if not dont.

The first year they had one was the year after i left juvenile. The 2 trainers sons won both in fairness one deserved it the other really did not.

They do nothing for anyone only boost the ego of the cocky lads and does nothing to the lad who doesnt get one.

In fact it could turn a player off seeing someone undeserving get one.

Imo if they want to give the children a party let them but why not try and reward every player maybe by gettin sponsorship for a set of t shirts for every player.

I agree but they seem to think its great for the kids. We had ours yesterday and it was the same kids again this year getting the trophies. I was watching the others and they all looked :( and thinking "why not me?"

I even saw one kid walking forward to get his award even before they called out his name so he was obviously told by his father who is a mentor before that he was getting the trophy.
