Hopefully in the right forum here, just wondering how long does it take to finally discover what you want to work at in life!?

I'm 25 and only now am I beginning to have focus regarding where I'm heading, not sure exactly what the specific destination is at the moment, but I know the general direction which is a start!

I would say most people spend their life doing some pointless job which they have no interest in.

I know my thing is to eventually work for myself. I'm working on making that happen, but it's a slow process. :)

This will sound ghey, but in a way I think it's more important to work with nice people in a nice atmosphere than working in some sort of dream job. As you probably know, one prick can make any job hell!

    most people never do.

but most people don't bother to look.

    you're on the right road..

Thanks for those words of encouragement :) I've never had a direction of what I wanted to do, even through school, and the older I get the more I want to finally achieve something! :o I don't want to be someone who is living for the weekend or the pay check! But God knows those kind of jobs are few and far between! :P

Why don't you start your own business? You can do it part-time in the evenings and weekend if it's some sort of online or mail order business.

I am 23 and i love my current job, i don't know what the future holds so would leave that open.

It takes some people a lifetime to discover what they want and others a day....

Hey why don't you do this: write a list of what you want to do with your life and please be realistic.

A certain guy had a few to do list before he turned 30 which includes starring in an Irish TV series

    It wouldn't be that difficult

Fair City are always looking for extras for example...

my own mother was asked to be in Micheal Collins she was just walking down the street.

    it's not a goal that's _that_ impossible

have you seen the shows on rte?

Yeah I had a "joke" goal to appear on Fair City as an extra (without telling my mother - she watches Fair City) as a sort of surprise for her...

My niece has already been on it. Apparently it's easy to appear on the show - you just have to ask!

just go down to the back of RTE and they have the mock up of molloys and the bus stop and a few other things

just keep walking around when they're trying to film, eventually they'll get sick of ye and keep ye in :D

how long is a piece of string OP?

I was 12 when I know i wanted to be in Electronics and was 16 when I knew exactly what job in electronics to do.

Followed a college plan and did my LC to get into that college.

Dropped out after 2 years wasnt what I expected.

Went to get a serious job somewhere as a 19yr old as the celtic tiger was in full swing but had no experience except some bar work so went to work in a bar but my health suffered so I ended up working in Dunnes Stores.

10 years later some 17yrs after I wanted to be in electronics I opened my first grocery shop. thats how long it took me might take you less.

Take the time to do a list of what you might and do like and try them all where possible. If your young enough travel its my one biggest mistake so Ill have to wait till Im 70 before i can do it now.
