Ok, this is my first kinda C&C. I was in London for a mates wedding (processing those pics at the moment!) when I read the Challenge forum and noticed its for "Cold" this month. Well, it was brass-monkeys-looking-for-welders weather over there and I grabbed my Canon and went to Hyde Park for the winter wonderland show they had on for the kids. Surprisingly fewer shots then I thought I'd get but I do like the ones I've done.

So... which do you reckon for the challenge and any comments or criticisms? (feel free to look through the rest of my stuff).

Personally I think "Cold Up North" is the best shot of the lot,it has an interesting and original composition and simple muted colours. However if you're looking for a photo to fit the title of cold I think that photo may be a bit ambiguous.

The most fitting photo would be one of the leaf photos imo.The colours are perfect in the shots you have, although I think you could make more of the subject. In the 3 photos you have, the in focus areas are a jumble of smaller leaves. For these photos to stand out, the in focus area has to have a greater appeal...i.e just one large leaf being in focus, the edge of a leaf or the veins of a leaf. What I'm trying to say is that for the most part the idea of blurring out certain areas of a photograph is to focus on one distinct area and in turn simplifying the photograph. This isn't always the case but for these kind of shots I think it really makes a difference.

Thanks for that, you've confirmed something I thought when I looked at them alright, I preferred the one where there is a slightly more defined central piece to it.

I also have had a look at them again and they are mostly quite high F values (like F3.5 and F4.8) and they are a bit too fuzzy and unfocused for my liking. Someone suggested lowering my F value early today in another thread and that that would sharpen things up so, it looks like I have a new project to tinker with :)

Thanks for the feedback, I was wondering if I was making sense to myself.....

Thats the shot called "Cold Up North". Its funny you mentioned it because that is the one I had thought of submitting myself! I'd say its pretty cold in that chair swing!

    Relative to PIC http://flickr.com/photos/78645925@N00/3066584804/in/set-72157610360557056/

I enjoy the DOF and the fact it does look fookin cold in the pic.

I would have liked the whole head in the snow-person pic but thats just me.

    Nice shootin'
