Well guys,I havn't been here for a while and anybody who was following my many indecisive post will know that I had 4 Renaults at one point during the summer! and I didn't know whether to sell, keep, expand or whatever. But I did know that I wanted a 17 to keep my 15 company.
So 16,18 & Fuego have left the building(still should have kept them:() but I did loose my job during the year which helped make my decision for me. Thankfully I did get another job so I am back on track. So here I have them,,my new toy and my old favourite.

Nice car John, I remember scrapping a Gordini version a few years ago, nobody wanted it.

Seriously,,,I work in a Renault Dealership. They asked me if I would put it in for the launch of the New Megane & Laguna Coupes as this is a 35 yr old Coupe.

    Its a 17 . and the green one is a 15

How bad, any sales on those new coupe's:D

Car orders for the new yr. are almost non existant.Laguna Coupe is the right image car for Renault at completely the wrong time.

I drove the 17 all the way home from Edinburgh by the way.

Junkyard--A 17 Gordini in good condition will make about 8-10k in France at the moment!

I dont suppose you have any Renault Bits lying around the place??

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

R15 & R17 are my favourite Renaults. I got the sales brochures myself from the Renault dealer when they were launched :D

    Best of luck with them!

I know, tell me about it, the one I had wasn't bad either. No bits I'm afraid its probably recycled into a Suzuki Swift or something by now.

Is it me, or does that Renault sort of look like a Datsun Cherry or similar?

Theres an air of the FII alright if you look quickly, the 17 is alot rarer though!!

Never liked the styling of the 15/17 personally but they are very 70s and it's nice to see somebody is preserving them for us.

Do you know about other now rare Renaults? Even the 16 is rare enough now, and the 6, 14, 20/30 must be dwindling in numbers.

Actually collectively there was only 304,856 15/17's made.I have a book!
My 15(R1300) is a 1979(last yr made). There was only 789 made during that last year and that green colour(977)was only available for 78/78 so taking a view on those figures it is probably 1 of about 100 cars,THOUGH total 15 production was 209887.

My 17(R1312) is an 1973 model.Total 17 production was only 71569. My TL version accound for the bulk of that at 50190.
Of that figure there was 16954 made during 1973(the best year),but what makes my car rare is that the Blue colour used(Blue Fonce 460) was only made for 1973.White ,Red,and Yellow were the most common.

I believe that these figures are quite small for production cars. To have either is great. I am totally chuffed as a Renault fan to have both.

The guy that I bought the 17 from is restoring another gold 17 for himself. This car appeared on ebay about 2 years ago. It had been off the road for about 12 years so he bought it as a proposed parts car for his own restoration only to discover that it was better than his own car. His dilema was then should he abandon his own restoration in favour of finishing this one,or continue with his own car. He contacted me last April after one of my many Wanted posts on various sites telling me his dilema. I offered to buy this car,but after seeing pictures I knew It was basically a sound car,but it had rust in the front wings and needed recomissioning, and it was a 35 yr old Renault automatic that had not been on the road for 12 years.I walked away. He said that that was not a problem as he would probably get it on the road anyway. Then for some ownknow reason about 6 weeks ago,I came across his number again and decided to give him a ring. As it turned out he had just sent the car to a local garage to be recomissioned and MOT'D and also have some work done on the wings. I offered to buy the car on satisfactory completion of the work. Bar the front wings, which I had redone after I got it home, the car seems totally original. It has had some welding done on the outer sills under the rear windows, which I am going to tidy up a bit. It drives very well, but I need to sort the exhaust which is blowing a bit(think I need a back box). Also I have a coolant leak somewhere. It is loosing some--The inside of the rad looks wet,but it is also
bubbling a small bit in the jar.Of course these engines are know for headgaskets, but its not getting hot so I think that a can of wonderweld will be used for the time being Some of the interior switches are incorrect but I have located some from a guy in the USA who does Renault parts he trades under the name of Renault Source. He is expensive though.

I only remember seeing a few 6's around Kilkenny, and from memory nearly all were driven by the nuns in St.Lukes.
I did have a very clean 14 back in 1992 as my daily driver. I brought it to Dublin one day and coming back down the dual carriage way the temp.light came on. I pulled over,no sign of overheating so I assumed that the fan had failed to I took the view that if I kept driving at least it would keep it cool. I got all the way home no problem but next morning there was a pool of rusty water underneath it. I had cracked the(peugeot)aluminium block between 2 cylinders. I rang the local breaker who used to have a few cheap cars to see what he had--he said he had a clean Fuego.
I poured water into the 14 and by God did I give it one hell of a last drive to get there to see that Fuego. Here I was at 19 years of age faced with my dream car of a Fuego and I could have it for 500 with the 14. It came home with me. I had that Fuego for 2 years and it never let me down. I still have it though it is about 6 feet underground in a hole.
I bought a Fuego GTX 2L after that which was suppose to be the business but it was a total disaster. I ended breaking the old car for its gearbox just to keep it going, where in truth I should have just broken the GTX for the alloys, front fog lamp bumper, and leather steering wheel to make my good GTS look better.
After that I bought a 1987 Nissan Sunny ZX Coupe----That was a great car.

Indeed, rare to find a roadworthy one, rarer again to find that some guy is racing one,or should i say raced one.Though this is quirky too...
