    http://www.dceb.ie/networking/link!

Anyone been to one of these - what are they like ? Another networking group i've heard of is the Kaizen Group - http://www.kaizengroups.com/

I have to say I'm very put off by the fact that neither of these have so much as a forum, less mind anything more interactive/social media, given they are both about networking.

Kaizen group appears to be supported by BOI and dublin city enterprize board I wouldnt let the lack of a forum put me off, they appear to be reputable, plus the events advertised on their websites are free entry so what do you have to lose?

Very disappointing. What sort of example is that ????

Its so easy to add ICT to a site - why still on the old static format?

    Not impressed:(

    Hi guys,

I'm a member of both The Kaizen Group and DCEB LINK!.

Speaking for Kaizen, we have had a bulletin board online since early last year, however it contains sensitive company data and is not public. The Kaizen Group is a small group of SME owners who share business knowledge and effectively act as non-executive directors for each others businesses (we have NDAs and non-compete agreements). It's a great way of brainstorming business issues with a knowledgeable motivated group. We're currently only one group, we formed ourselves from LINK after we decided we wanted to meet more often and share more information. DCEB have been very supportive and have organised a fantastic boardroom meeting space in BOI for us. Kaizen is similar in some ways to the Plato network.

I'm not an organiser of DCEB LINK!, but as a member I highly recommend it to all small business owners in the Dublin City region. Their website has loads of information. If anyone would like to come along as my guest, please send me a PM here or email me (see top of www.WebsiteDoctor.com for my email address). I know that DCEB are currently setting up an online forum, so watch for announcements on that front. Again, it may be private to members only, I don't know yet.

Membership: Kaizen is by invitation - to be effective we need to keep it small, and to ensure a good match of personalities. I think DCEB would be interested in setting up a 2nd Kaizen group in parallel - if you contact me I'll send you on more information and put you in touch with Greg Swift or someone from the DCEB who can help.

LINK! is open to everyone in the DCEB region, cost is a tiny €100 per annum, well worth it.

If there any any solo entrepreneurs out there wondering about networking, I highly recommend it - it helps to know you're in the same boat with others, great to share advice, contacts, sales leads, get to know people, make friends and just have someone to bounce ideas off or to go for a pint with.

Feel free to ask more questions, I'll try answer them as best as I can (and as quickly my schedule allows)!

    Cheers,
    Alastair.

Thanks for the info Alistair, that's very informative.

I do hope LINK! up the ante on their online offering, it would increase the its effectiveness several fold if they utilised online networking in conjunction with the physical meet ups.

@BenjAii: true that the online stuff is important, but face to face is where you build trust and relationships.

@Darragh29: which one is the same idea you posted? Kaizen? We've been going about 18 months but until recently we just got on with it rather than publicising it or telling anyone what we were doing. When we asked DCEB for support about 6 months ago they gave us a mentor, organised meeting space and were very interested in the concept. I'm not sure if they're going to take it further.

If you want to meet for a tea/coffee/pint in town sometime I'll tell you about it.

Thanks for that Alistair, I might well take you up on your offer of going along to LINK! in the new year.

Darragh, if you were going to put time and effort into what you were talking about, the place to start might be under-represented online arena and tying it in to the existing efforts Alistair has outlined.
