GT5 Prologue - do i have to be online?

I recently purchased a new PS3 I downloaded and installed GT5 Prologue. I played it a for a while when I was still on-line I've since tried playing it while not connected but it an error tells me I am not connected - is it necessary for me to be on-line to play it?

It's in the T&C's for any full game purchased via PSN store that you must be online to play them. Stops people just copying via a USB key and giving it to their buddys for free.
