glad to see rte doing its own programs on science, its being doing a number in the past few years, but it just annoying that they call it the investigators, because science is boring right!, even in the narration everyone is refferred to as an investigate not a scientist.

last night was about space parts of satellites ireland is building to go to mercury

you can see its government/industry sponsored show from mile off, with its narration very basic aimed at students why is it on so late then? it should be on at 9 on rte 2

i guess they show it in schools

I guess they are cashing in on the popularity of CSI et al to try to 'sell' science as a craeer, and explain why we have scientists, what they're doing etc.
I find the program a bit twee at times myself, but at the same time I feel that actual science and research are not covered enough on TV or in the media generally. This is because the work and th outcomes just arent as glossy and exciting as in the fictional shows.

I think there is an onus on scientists to represent their work in 'English' rather than the jargon used in publications, so this is a step in the right direction at least. Perhaps they've pulled from CSI miami just a little too much though?

You probably saw the other thread looking for volunteers for a TV focus group this Saturday. We're DCU media researchers and we want people's opinions on an episode of 'The Investigators' screening this Thursday about nanotechnology. Basically we want people to watch it (after 11pm RTE1) and come to a focus group on Saturday morning at 9.30 in DCU to contribute to the focus group. Coffee and refreshments supplied. Anyone interested, just PM.
