Wrestler of the Year 2008

Ok, so who do you reckon was the best wrestler of 2008?

The criteria you base your vote on are your own, you can explain them if you want but it's not necessary for you to do so if you don't want to. If someone doesn't want to, that's their business, don't have a go. Keep it civil when discussing peoples choices too.

The voting system is simple. Vote for your top 3. First place gets 5 points, second place gets 3 points and 3rd place gets 1 point. At the end we tally the points and count a winner.

So away we go folks! :)

    HBK
    Orton
    Edge

HBK has just been amazing. He can still put on a great match and he struck gold storyline-wise with his feuds against Flair, Batista and Jericho. I can't sing the praises of the man enough this year.

I don't understand how you can throw Orton in there when he's spent half of the year benched?

From what I saw in half the year, I thoroughly enjoyed.

    1. Kurt Angle: He has been spot on all year, matches with Christian, AJ, Joe, Jarrett and Styles were all brilliant.

    2. Edge

    3. AJ Styles

I'm interested in why you think Roode.

I'm interested in why you think Roode.

I thought he showed a lot of potential until he got tagged up as half of beer money, he appeared to me, to be a credible upper midcarder and possible main eventer. I think he and Storm got the shaft with Beer Money in the sense that they spent enough years floundering in the tag ranks, only to get paired and thrown back in there when they were in the midst of establishing themselves as singles players.

My three picks are based on in-ring performance and also importance to their respective company(ie ability to draw for their respective companies).

    1. Keiji Mutoh. Holds two of the three major belts in japan. has improved attendances for both New and All Japan as a headliner. Has had decent matches all round all year.

    2. Shingo Takagi. Has been incredible in Dragon gate this year. Too over fro CIMA and grasped the ball with both hands. Unreal matches all year and attendances for nDragon gate shows stayed strong when itvwas widely predicted that theyd drop off after CIMA's injury.

    3. Edge. The only PPVs that improved on last years performance in WWE were
when Edge an taker were on top. As the top in ring heel they have hes been just brilliant all year.

Honourable mention to Naoimichi Marufuji whos had a briliant last few mopnths as the Junior champ in All japan. Saw him live in Coventry as well and he showed more charisma than anyone else on the show.

KENTA had a brilliant last 6 months as well.

And of course Bryan Danielson, albeit in a quieter year by his standards still maintained an unbelievable level of excellence. No one as the ability to convincingly break an opponent apart like Dragon.
