OK people lets keep this civilised. This thread is for the discussion of what is a taboo subject, yet is of vital importance, brain damage in boxing. There is a strong culture of denial in boxing about this. Its the elephant in the room, the monkey on everyones back, the subject no one wants to talk about. Anyone who brings it up is quickly and harshly dealt with, and fobbed off with calls of hysteria. How dare they attack my right to box. Well not too long ago people were saying "how dare you attack my right to smoke". I'm afraid people do not act in their own best interests, and are blinded by therir own pig headedness.

Well there's a reasonable arguement to return to bare knuckle boxing.
Apparently, there's a much lower chance of brain damage or serious injury from bare knuckle boxing, as you can't punch as hard, so there's less force to the skull.

the original book smarts was banned for starting a topic and causing trouble before, nothing has changed. Any idiot can tell you that blows to the head can cause brain damage. Crashing a race car can kill you to, do you want to ban everything? There are more deaths from horse racing. Your a troll.

I present for the defence the JFK & Bobby defence, they knew what they'd do would ultimently result in their demise, should they have not done it?

Brain damage is also prevalent in Rugby, American football and even to a lesser degree football(soccer).

Original poster unless you can produce new information, facts or figures this thread will be locked for flame baiting/trolling.

Amateur boxing is much safer than the pro game anyway, due to the lower amount of time participants are in the ring and also the style, which is much more suited to point scoring than inflicting damage.

Darren Sutherland, Kenny Egan, Paddy Barnes, John Joe Joyce and John Joe Nevin didn't seemed to have any noticeable effects of brain damage. All of these men have been boxing for quite some time.

Infact if you're thinking of examples of brain damage in boxing you will struggle to think of any other than professional fighters who went on far too long.
The mandatory retirement age in amateur boxing means very few fighters could go on 'too long' in the sport and considering the much reduced damage inflicted to amateur boxers most get out with their brain in pretty decent condition.

I'm not a troll, that's why i specifically started this thread. The last time I was goaded into being banned because I attacked some people's precious beliefs. If you don't want to discuss it, just ignore this thread. There's no need to lock it. I thought this was a place where any aspects of boxing could be discussed? Otherwise that's just censorship, and a sad sign of closed-mindedness.

Considering how many young impressionable people come to this board for information, I think it's important that this is in the open, instead of brushed under the carpet because it's inconvenient.

where's your facts you where asked for? Boxing is 1 of our most popular sports and there has never been an amateur death in ireland or any brain injuries on record, next you'll be asking for heading footballs to be banned just in case. You have freedom of choice, do it if you want or dont if you so choose, but dont come on here scare mongering with no basis to go on. Pro boxers are paid well and pass yearly brain scans to get licensed. With any activity there is risk, me boxing will not hurt you in any way. You should worry about yourself and not try to troll on a boxing fans forum. You should change your name as you dont come across as well read.

Either produce something of substance(an article or something to actually discuss) or this thread will be closed. Right now it's as pointless as a thread on After Hours titled 'Ban alcohol consumption now'

The smoking law was brought in to protect workers btw, not people from themselves.

Actually, forget it. I couldn't be bothered argueing with people who've already made up their minds. The last time I produced loads of linked articles to back my case, which were all quietly ignored, all of them. Just Google the subject. Ask any brain surgeon if he thinks its a good idea. Boxing is one of the most stupid and moronic things someone can do. You people just don't want to challenge your precious belief system. So hurry, lock this thread before any people are reminded of the stupidity of boxing, or before anyone gets a chance to agree with me. You'll probably ban me for saying this. Pathetic.

Blah blah blah, your agenda is out now, now go off to the nature and bird watching forum and tell the hunting people how bad hunting is-or if you want people to agree with you go to the animal and pets section, There is also a mixed martial arts forum that might interest you, you might call it "Human cock fighting!"

thats all i can write in 1 forum as my brain is so badly damaged that i cant go on till i recharge-

So you're saying you have nothing of substance to provide and have an obvious agenda against boxing ?

    Excellant, thread closed.
