Buying a TV from Pixmania

Just looking for some advice on buying a tv from pixmania. I was thinking of getting toshiba 32" mpeg 4 http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/1783549/art/toshiba/regza-32cv515dg-lcd-telev.html

I'm just wondering about their aftersales. If I have the bad luck to have to send it back under warranty, I presume I'll have to pay the postage and it'll cost me a lot more than the €15 it costs for them to send it to me? They also offer an additional warranty "ZEN" package for €45, but I wonder if its a waste of money from a warranty point of view given that there is manufacturer's warranty for one year anyway.

While I'm on, can we expect mpeg 4 TVs to come down much in price in the Xmas sales? (this toshiba is currently €510 on pixmania)

    Any advice much appreciated.

    Davin

heard lots of bad things about them. Also make sure it has mpeg4 as someone got a tv from them under that impression and it didn't!
Try Richer Sounds if you want a good bargain though its more the expensive stuff at a cheaper price but worth a try and you can talk to them first and get the proper advice

Thanks for the heads up, don't think I'll bother taking the risk.

Try Komplett...use their contact section for any questions - very helpful !!

I have found from people's comments here that Komplett's delivery charges are very expensive for tvs unless you can collect from Dublin Depot.

€14.99 to ship a 32" Toshiba 32AV505 from komplett to your address in Ireland (selected "No Thanks" for option to collect from Dublin depot)? Doesn't seem expensive to me.

FWIW, 1staudiovisual.co.uk has five 32" Toshibas for between £350 and £450 (€420 - €540). Add in shipping costs (£100 (€120)), and you're looking at €540 - €660, depending on the model you choose.

    They don't seem to list an AV505, just AV555, AV504, CV505, XV505 and XV555 - I don't have time to check which or any are MPEG4.

I also thought Komplett's delivery costs were very reasonable, and the best bit was that they'll use An Post, which meant I could wander up to my local parcel collection office with a handtruck instead of having to wait at home for a courier.

Best prices on the net for Sonys www.laptopdirects.ie in home service warranty for 3 years £50 delivery to Ireland.

I've used 1staudiovisual.co.uk to purchase an LCD and found tghe service excellent. The shipping isnt cheap but it is a specialist courier service and the product prices are very cheap so all added together they are very good value.

I think that should be www.laptopsdirect.ie?

    That's where I'll be getting my Panasonic TH-50PZ80: £1115 + £130 shipping = £1245 = €1490.

Not seen it (the PY80, that is - the equivalent for Ireland with a tuner for Irish analog broadcasts) for less than €2200 over here. Makes me angry, to be honest, but at least we have options and can avoid these greedy Irish dealer's profiteering.

Patriotism my arse - the little free cash I have goes further when I shop outside ROI, and that's because everyone who can rip Irish punters off does.

My conscience is clearer when I buy from outside ROI than the consience of the greedy Irish dealers should be for charging €710 more for the same TV.

Cranky Monday morning rant over. :o

So anyway, you reckon their service was good? Had you any problems at all with them?

No problems at all. Excellent comms via email and all logged for the record on line in your account. Ordered on a Tuesday am (40" LCD) and received on a Friday morning. I chose them after reading excellent reviews of their service on AVForums.

Correct mark 1 , BTW I don't think the Panny PZ80 has a Irish type UHF/VHF tuner as the later model PZ81 only has a UHF tuner for analogue.Worth checking with the supplier.

Z81 is only for sale in UK so import only, grand if your rte comes in on uhf but not if vhf. Try richersounds also. Note til Dec 31st, theres free 5 year warranty on some panasonics

Which is "pan-European", according to a mail I got from panasonic when I enquired, meaning Panasonic Paddy is obliged to look after you if you need to avail of the warranty.

Bear in mind that it seems the 5-year warranty usually (if not exclusively) applies to in-store purchases, so web-sales may not qualify. Nipping up and buying from Richer Sounds in Belfast obviously should, and apparrently their prices are good.

There are two models (at least) of the Z81, the uk TH-42PZ81B and the european TH-42PZ81E. The E model has a UHF/VHF tuner (according to the manual from the French Panasonic site) but I can't be sure it would cover everything possible here (I think we use VHF channels A-I on PAL-I). The relevant section from the manual is:

    PAL B, G, H, I, SECAM B, G, SECAM L / L’
    VHF E2 - E12 VHF H1 - H2 (ITALIE)
    VHF A - H (ITALIE) UHF E21 - E69
    CATV (S01 - S05) CATV S1 - S10 (M1 - M10)
    CATV S11 - S20 (U1 - U10) CATV S21 - S41 (Hyperbande)

DVB Services numériques terrestres via entrée d’antenne VHF / UHF

Antenne arriere • VHF / UHF

Just don't bother with them. It's ok when everything goes smooth. But problem starts when error occure. You will be left waiting for ages with no response from them at all. I'm just after huge battle with them and only think I heard was I don't know, I cant help you. Customer service is rock bottom. No one takes responsibility for his actions and nobody act for a customer sake. They don't give a damn about you as soon as they got your money.

It's not worth to save just couple euro to through that. It's better to get stuff from ebay or somewhere localy if possible.

You will know what I'm talking about when you whant refound or acctually anything from them over the phone. Then you will see what approach they have to you as a customer.

I feel sorry for you already.

AFAIK, the european model has no satellite tuner in it which makes it not worth the bother and without that, one couldn't be sure of mpeg4 tuner
