    hi guys,

is it just me or do you reckon traffic is lighter this year in dublin?
i am now driving in to city most mornings from blanchardstown in about 30/35 mins (a fair bit of that is spent getting past the m50 roundabout) which would not have been possible last year.

possible explanation far less people working.
    what do you think?

    Cheers,

Yes, I noticed this too on the N3, whereas last year, I'd have to leave at about 6.40am to avoid the build up to the M50, now I can leave at around 7 and still be relatively ok.

However, I am sure this will all change when they start work on the M50 roundabout...

In September and October the N4 inbound was worse then ever however since the underpass has opened at Newcastle it's been pretty good. Every day this week I've been able to come in all the way to the M50 and go home on the M50 as well. I would hope it's to do with enforcement of provisional license holders not driving alone and maybe the increased price of fuel but that has somewhat subsided. I'd imagine the large increase in people out of work and immigrants who have left the country are contributing factors.

I would say the removal of the toll booth has had an impact also, as traffic is more free flowing here junctions around it are also moving quicker at times reducing the back flow on the secondary roads in the area.

Not a massive contribution but probably makes a difference.

Not to mention thousands fewer employed in construction in the greater Dublin area. I don't have the correct number of people, that's a rough figure

They all commuted to work so any large reduction should be noticable
