Just wondering if any of you have experience in, or got installed a TV Lift for a flat screen TV ?

I am toying with the idea of building in some cabinets, and as apart of that putting in a lift for a 42"/50" Plasma which will allow the Plasma to be hidden in the cabinet, and then appear at the flick of a switch up through it.

Appreicate any advice from those of you have had this done, or perhaps done it yourselves ! I would also be interested to know any recommendations you might have on where to source a lift and cost ?

    Cheers.

Have done this a couple of times. Will root out the photos of the most recent job and post them for you.
The motor is probably the cheapest part of the job as whenever we have done it the cabinet was bespoke and made up most of the cost of the project.
I'll post info on rough prices for the motors etc later today if I get time.

    Cheers,

    Homer.

    Found em!

Not great quality (taken on iPhone) but you'll get the idea.

For this particular one the cabinet was made bespoke to (a) match the finish of other high gloss furniture/wardrobes in the room, (b) to match the dimensions of the particular bed in that room.

    Operated via RF remote control.

What model/size of screen were you thinking of using? Any other questions just shout.

    Cheers,

    Homer.

    Cheers Homer !

I am considering doing at least one in the bedroom similar to what you have shown. I am also considering something for another room too.

Screen size, would possibly be 32" or 46"/50" elsewhere.

Can to share some information on the motor/bracket - cost, where to get, etc. ?

Also in the pics, I assume power, tv signal, etc. is fed from directly under the cabinet up through the floor or ran from the wall under the bed ?

    Thanks again !

    Hi Eddie,

The cost is determined by a number of factors.

    1. The type of motor required. Do you just need raise and lower the screen out of the cabinet, or would you require the screen to swivel once it is raised?

    2. The size of the screen as this will effect the dimensions of the cabinet required and therefore the cost!

    3. The finish on the cabinet, or whether you require a specific design. There are some readymade cabinets that have the motor pre installed for certain sizes of screen. Generally up to 42". However if, as in the pictures posted, you want complete control over the design of the cabinet, then the costs can go up dramatically!

In the pictures I posted it was a new build and so we could instruct the electrical contractor to feed all power and AV cables to a location at the foot of the bed. There are then holes cut in the cabinet at floor level to allow for the cables to be fed in and yet covered by the foot of the bed so you don't see them.

It is hard to give exact cost as each one is generally different to suit individual needs but if you are prepared to either take a pre fabricated cabinet with motor/lift fitted or fit a motor/lift into a piece of furniture of your own then the cost can be brought down?

    Cheers,

    Homer.

Nothing fancy, screen going up and down would be fine. Probably go with a 32" for the bedroom.

Am open to pre-made cabinets, although I could make something either to match in with the beech coloured waredrobes we have.

An idea on price for the premade would be useful, and also for the motor if I was to fit into an home made custom cabinet would be helpful. Also an idea where to source such stuff would also be great ! :)

    Hi Eddie,

A rough price for the pre made cabinet that will take up to 42" screen is €2k.

    Unit Dimensions when closed :-
    Height 710mm – Length 1200mm – Depth 440mm
    Unit Dimensions when open :-
    Height 1370mm – Length 1200mm – Depth 440mm
Lift will hold TV up to 42inch or weight 25kg

    EOB_Unit.jpg

It is a high gloss black laminate type finish.

To give you a comparison, the original pictures I posted was a bespoke non laminate finish, solid wood, hand made with a stunning finish and cost nearly four times what a pre made one would!!

You could buy the motor/lift mechanism on its own of course if your joinery skills are up to it :p and fit it into your own cabinet for around €1.5k

No, they are not cheap but they allow you to conceal the screen when not in use, meaning your screen is no longer the focal point of the room! They also give a real wow factor for people who haven't seen them before!

    Cheers,

    Homer.

This is basically what the lift looks like, and how it operates without the cabinet around it!

Thanks for the info Homer, more expensive that I thought for just the motor. Guess I'll be putting this on the back burner for a while........ :(

I actually source and install these as part of what I do for a living during the day. Hence the pictures and detailed info on the various types of units.
The first few pictures as I explained were a finished product and the cabinet was custom made hence the hefty price tag!
The second picture is the pre made unit and is (sort of) an off the shelf item.
Anybody need more info just PM me as I don't want to be seen to be pimping myself openly on boards as per the charter :o

Flat TV lift provides you with numerous interesting options. The flat TV lift is an electronically driven lift system for TV and computer screens. The lift system can also be used for other applications. High quality materials ensure a quality high-tech product.

Apologies for digging up a slightly older thread, but I am kinda thinking about a tv lift - and I am thinking wouldn't it be a lot easier and way cheaper if there was no wooden cabinet around the whole mechanism?

What I am thinking about is a lift mechanism like the animated gif above, placed into a angle-iron frame (the ones that you can buy and assemble to make shelf of various sizes etc - a bit like mechano). Then wrap this frame a thick textile cover (that would be easy to remove and wash if required), and secure the whole lot on the bedframe?

    Thanks a mil!
