I just got my UIpod touch.
So, obviously I have to charge it. I couldn't use my home PC as it doesn't have XP or better (new pc ordered today too).
So I bring it into work to charge it. I pluged it into the USB and it stays on. A "electric bolt" appears on the batter in the top left but its no charging anuimation (should there be).
Also, the screen only show a picture of the cable and a CD.

My guess is that its not charging on this PC as I don't have admin rights. Is there a way to bypass this?
How do I get past the "cable and cd screen"

No, the Pc BIOS probably doesnt allow external storage devices to connect hence the reason it wont charge.
Happened in my old place, would recognise anything really, I managed to get it to charge on a windows 2000 machine though. I rebooted it and left it at the login screen then plugged my iPod in and it charged! I assume it was because I wasnt logged in, but I had admin rights so that cancells that out

    Don't think its that.
As I also have a 250GB HD pluged in, and its working fine. (running USB power too)

Is the port a high power USB 2.0 port? Does it charge if you plug out the HDD?

By charge I'm guessing you been run or power. (A HD doesn't have a battery so doesn't charge)
But yeah, its a a USB 2.0 port, and its a portable HD, so runds off the USB power alone. More than enough to charge.

The only thing I can think of is the fact that its not synced with iTunes (home PC won't work with iT, work not allowed, and laptop is being re-built)

    That doesn't make any difference.

I mean if you don't have the HDD connected does the iPod battery charge? Depending on how your USB ports are set up on your computer, one port taking high power could reduce the other devices to low power ports, if they are hubbed in that configuration. By removing the HDD and other USB devices connected the iPod will get all the power through the port.
