I have just bought the above system and I am wondering can I run a regular dvd/vcr and a nintendo wii through it. I have a ps3 runing to the amp using a HDMI cable and the amp is connected to the tv with another HDMI cable but I don't know how to hook up the dvd and wii (which use the older style yellow red and while type leads).

If anyone has setup something similar some advise would be appreciated.

I've had a look at the manual for the Sony HT SF1300 and you can't route the video from your Wii or dvd player through it (unless the dvd player has HDMI ouyput which I understand not to be the case from your post above.

You could connect the Red and White out put from the Wii to the Sony by connecting to the corresponding Red and White RCA sockets at the back marked "Audio in Video 1" and connect the Yellow (Composite Video) ouput from the Wii to a corresponding Yellow "in" socket on your television - most have them at the side for attaching games consoles, or at the back, or if there isn't one, connect the Yellow plug to the corresponding socket of a Scart adaptor and pulg that into your TV. Then select the "Video 1" option on the Sony ofr the sound, and the appropriate input to which you've connected the Yellow plug for the picture on your TV.

Fro the DVD, you can connect it to the "Coax in DVD" socket on the back of the Sony, these are usually Orange coloured RCA sockets - you connect using a digital interconnect, a single lead with RCA plugs on either end. Alternatively, you can connect using an optical cable from the dvd to the "Optical in Video 2" socket on the back of the Sony. For video, you should connect the dvd player to the TV using either Component, S-Video or Composite video leads, depending on which options are available from the dvd player. If you connect the dvd player to the TV using a Scart cable, you might find that the digital out put is not working - you need to check the manual or menu options in the dvd player for this.

    Ritz.

Thanks for that. I have it all hooked up now. I done it by hooking the yellow video cable directly to the tv the the red and white audio cables to the amp as you said. The only thing i noticed is when I put on a DVD there doesn't seem to be any sound coming from the rear speakers even though it says 5.1 dolby on the back of the DVD cover. Is this normal or is it because i need to change something in the settings?

To get 5.1, you need to either connect the optical ToSLINk or CoAx (whichever the dvd player has) into a suitable input on your av reciever (if it has one), or connect the multi-out RCA from the dvd player (if it has one) to a multi-in RCA on the reciever (if it has one).

To get MultiChannel out of the PS3 over HDMI, you need an AV Reciever that can decode an LPCM stream from the PS3 over HDMI.

The PS3 will output non HD 5.1 over the optical output.

Alternatively, to get *some* sound out of the rear channels using the Red/White stereo sound, switch on some Dolby ProLogic effects on the AVReciever.

Sorry for being so dense about all this and thanks for your reply but I dont know what all these cables you are refering to are so here is what i have.

On the back of the DVD player there are two scart sockets and three other jacks labled y, PB/CB and PR/Cr there are no other outputs. Then on the amp there are various red and white audio inputs and one coax input which is coloured orange. The cable I have is a scart plug on one end and three plugs (red white and yellow) one the other end. So do I put the scart i the back of the dvd player as before and put the red and white into one of the red and white inputs on the amp and the yellow into the coax (orange) on the amp? Or do Need some other sort of cable completly?

    Nereid

I had the above posted before I saw that you edited your last post but its only the dvd im concerned with. The PS3 is working perfect with the HDMI cables.
