Running Asterisk on a Bubba Linux appliance server

Has anyone tried running Asterisk on an inexpensive Bubba|Two Linux appliance server? It is like a firewall/router box with a hard drive, USB and eSata ports and runs Linux on a platform which allows software to be installed. It only consumes 10 W of electricity, has no fan noise, and up to 1 TB of built in hard disk running on Debian Linux.

From the docs it seems to run the standard Debian Sarge & Etch OS so asterisk should install fine, if you’re looking for a solid state appliance have a look at ApplianceShop.eu

Interesting Asterisk-type appliance, but I'm planning to build an integrated box that provides both telecomms and a web interfaced management system for a house.

I don't want lots of PC kit running 24h/24 wasting electricity.

I do want to get into the (secure) "home website" so I can switch on the heating when I am away, in an unplanned mode, before I get back, view webcams if the security alarm goes off to see if it is real or a false alarm, and similar.

In time, there might be an electric car parked in the driveway, and I might want to start it charging in a timely manner before I need it, rather than wasting the battery life cycle and electricity by keeping it charged all the time. A moveable feast of stuff that might happen over time - which needs a full Linux type box as a platform - rather than an application-specific thing.

    Hi

The Alix2c2 motherboard with an 8 GB Compact flash card & Voyage Linux should fit the bill. No moving parts, low power consumption - POE if you want, full linux OS.

I have one of these for our VOIP PBX/Telecoms needs works a treat. For additional storage if necessary an external hard drive can be added via the USB ports.
