Gun bag or gym bag?

Gun bags are expensive. I am (very) cheap, but I don't want to show my AEG (getting it tomorrow) in public. Can anyone reccommend a gym bag or other solution I can cannibalise into a working gun bag?

    whats expensive ??

Most are 50 euro and under.
Certainly cheaper than being stopped for the barrel of your aeg poking out of an addidas bag by the police

Get yourself a guitar gig bag , most AEGs will fit in and nobody will notice a guy with a guitar bag

Man, I know what my nickname'll be in CQB... I got an interesting reception in HRTA wearing what was almost a hiz-viz snot green windcheater

Edit: I've just had someone else's brilliant idea! A guitar bag! Jeez, and I have a feckin' guitar staring at me. What will people think? :D

cheap guitar bags are about a tenner. shove some strips of camping mat into to pad it out so it looks like a guitar and you are good. the steyr fits into a half size classical case. the vinal cases should be easy to pick up in any guitar store.
as i have a slew of guitars i also have no shortage of cases, and they are the biz. everyone thinks it is a guitar and thats fine. but ultimately you can use anything at all that hides the gunnish look of it. even a load of old newpapers and binbags would do in a pinch, but be sure to tape it up well. you dont want it falling out on the street.

yeah grab yourself a guitar case I'd suggest a bass one will fit almost any rifle with the exception of a few and they should be just a strong if not stronger

confab is picking up a steyr aug. it would be list down the bottom of a bass case. its a very short gun. mine fits in a standard electric soft case with a foot long suppressor in the end of it,and my webbing down the bottom. very short gun for the barrel length. you will never fool anyone that there is a bass in it if the neck is bent double. lol.
i have also heard of tennis raquet cases being used for mp5's. anyone have any other unusual case ideas?

You'd fit an AUG in a gym bag no prob, the barrel comes off at the flick of a switch.

You can get a gun bag for €35 that will fit the AUG exactly in length, I got one myself a while ago, perfect fit.

Oh I dont know if they have seen Desperado they might be suspicious

Film is awesome on many levels!

Ponytail and Mariachi costume to complete the loadout :D

Back on topic guitar case would work nicely.

i think most people would not wear their dpm's when walking about. or at least i hope not.

no one. they are instead going to be, what have you got in your bass case? what are you going to say? a very small bass? i would rather people take what they see on face value. it is much easier.

Yep random people off the street will walk up to you and say that :P

nope, but people do say that when you are travelling around the country by bus, train and hitchhiking. it is called making conversation. and outside of dublin people do it quite a lot.

off topic, but true. personally i find the cliquish nature of dublin a bit tough. when i first moved to the sticks i was in shock. everyone waves at you and says hello in the street. i didn't know them!!! lol. ya, it is always safer to have a plausable cover story for your aeg in the sticks, cos "what is that you got there" is not an unusual question from a random stranger. i would prefer "are ya going playin tonight". i find it easier to deal with, cos i can "bend" the truth rather than flat out lie. i SUCK at lies.

Nosey boglanders, I'm glad I live in Dublin where people mind their own business!

"Hmmmmm, that man looks like he has an RPG in his guitar case. I'd better just keep walking, he's probably a coke dealer or something..."

    i bought from this shop

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Cricket-Bag-Sports-bag-100-x-20-x-25cm_W0QQitemZ300273231400QQihZ020QQcategoryZ109125QQcmdZViewItem

its the perfect size, is cheap and you can fit loads of guns/gear in them the shop is pretty good

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 954 ✭✭✭MacAonghusa

Either one, whatever suits. You can buy rifle bags pretty cheap; just as cheap as guitar bags so don't know why someone would use a guitar bag

Only go for a hard case if you intend flying somewhere, IMO.

I find the Aug very easy to take down, the gym bag is perfect. Thanks for the ideas guys :D

I just noticed that Flecktarn now have a very nice range of bags at pretty decent prices:

Myself and my friends have been using Guitar bags for well over a year now without fail.
Saves the money for spending on the gun..

Might be worth bearing in mind also that if you plan on ever going to any international events and need to fly that you must have your AEG checked in a "hard" case i.e the shiny silver ones.

Ive been informed this is the case however Im open to correction on this :)
