Some interesting reading here, especially the parts about fixture planners and development in urban areas

The GAA have announced a six year 'Strategic Vision and Action Plan'.

The initiative is a roadmap for the future to help the Association build and develop participation in Gaelic games and culture.

In order to develop this plan, an extensive consultation process took place involving over 8,000 people across the country and abroad. This consultation included clubs, members, non-members, volunteers, officials and players.

President of the GAA Nickey Breannan said at the launch of the scheme: 'Our vision is that everybody has the opportunity to be welcomed to take part in our games and culture, to participate fully, to grow and develop and to be inspired to keep a lifelong engagement with our Association.'

The action plan sets out clear results to be achieved at club, county, provincial and national level over the next seven years and addresses the main challenges facing the Association.

Challenges include increasing participation in urban areas, amongst non-traditional and new communities; providing an enhanced playing experience for every GAA player and improving communications with all our members.

The Association has identified key projects to bring the GAA forward to 2015.

These include urban initiatives, improving coaching standards in clubs and schools, developing better facilities for our players and members and implementing a more balanced programme of games for our players.

Brennan added: 'The Strategy acts as our anchor to help us plan our work, goals and targets, measure our success and enables us to be more accountable. The GAA has been built up over the past 124 years; it is up to each one of us now to help the Association to grow. We all have a part to play in the achievement of the goals and objectives outlined in the plan.'

Commenting at the launch Ard Stiúrthóir of the GAA, Páraic Duffy stated: 'I welcome this plan which is practical and achievable and clearly sets out objectives for the Association and I look forward to everybody working together to implement it.'

Well it's good to see them reaching out to urban and new communities more ... if they mean it and act on it that would be great.

I've said time and time again the strength of the GAA is in the grass roots and this has to be kept up. This is where they have the edge over soccer and rugby. They have to keep working at it.
