Posting for a guy I know, might get a lead here...

He wants a Cortina rear axle. Has to be an axle from a 2 litre apparantly.
It's for a Mk 2 Escort widebody project.

    Anyone know of one available?

ps wouldnt it need to be a Mk1 or 2 axle to fit an Escy? cart springs an all?

    a two litrre would be a Mk3 4 5 (which is what I have

I suppose chop the trailing arms and weld in the brackets for the U bolts?
The original escort axle is type A(english),whereas the cortina axle is B,to remove the diff in A is easy enough just pull the halfshafts and unbolt, whereas in the cortina its much harder if i remember rightly, think it has to be dismantled inside the casing.

Im thinking he wants the cortina axle for strength, they were known as the sailsbury or atlas type i think?

"Atlas" - that got a mention. I got the request to find an axle second hand so I am vague on details.

I'll see can I get more detail before taking a drive to Cork...

If I'm not mistaken, most of the Cortina's had either an english or Koln axle.

I think that the 2litre Cortinas were mk3 on, and most had Koln axles, which were about as useful as cheese when big power is put through them (a good 2litre pinto would give them trouble)

The Koln and atlas are easily confused. The difference is in the pattern of the bolt holes on the diff housing & cover.

I think that he's looking for a mk3 Capri axle, as they were wide atlas ones, which are good and strong. The 2.8 special Capri's had an LSD, but the 2.0 had a shorter final drive, giving better acceleration.

Although, a normal Escort english axle, forest arches and 7" minilights would give the classic "wide look"
