The best way to say...

    Hey guys,

I managed to get a interview for a restaurant tomorrow. I'm receiving social welfare payments because I've been unemployed for the last few months.

What's the best way to go about telling the interviewer this if they ask me what am I doing at the moment? I'm baffled as what to say because I think that's the main reason why I can't get a job since it doesn't look good. :(

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

why did you leave your last job?

just tell them you are inbetween jobs

If it's just a couple of months just tell them you took some time out after you left your last job and having been jobseeking for the past month or so

How long is a 'few months'?

There are a load of valid reasons; you were looking for work, you were travelling, you started your own business but it didn't work out, charity work in the Equatorial Guinea etc...

I got let off from my last job which was call centre work. They told me I wasn't selling enough and gave me no notice which is legal with those type of jobs when you're on a 3 month contract. That was 4 months ago and I have been searching ever since.

tell the bloody truth, if they every found out the truth what would they think of you lying at the interview stage.

you can bend it a little but everyone knows there are few jobs out there so as for you inbetween jobs there is nothing wrong with that or are you too proud? at least getting the interview shows that you are not a lazy so and so.

as for why you were let go from your previous employer just say it was only a 3 month contract that was not extended. why was is not extended? you never found out and anyways you would not be expected to be given a reason. dont elaborate on something you know nothing about ie the reason you were let go all they need to know is that the contract ended.

I agree with gerrycollins, everybody is finding it hard to get a job what with "The Recession" and all. Its a valid excuse and I doubt many would have a problem with it

I have told them simply that I have been looking for work. Not that I cannot get work (which is ****ing obvious) I just left college so I dunno...

Well guys I had the interview today and I actually thought it went very well. She just asked me are you working at the moment and I said no so I can start straight away. She said that I'll be starting training and stuff on Tuesday and she'll contact me on Monday to let me know.

    Fingers crossed :)

    Thanks for the advice.
