Does having a phd automatically give irish nationals citizenship in the Usa?

Im lead to believe also that by being married to some one with a phd will automatically entitle you to citizenship in the Usa?

Is there any truth to the above:rolleyes:

Iirc being married to an American gives you the possability to live in the country but not citizenship, you can only apply for that after X years and then pass the test.

it's easier for the person with the PHD to get a visa than a regular joe working in MC Donalds, but being married to someone with a PHD? teh posession of a PHD does not automatically allow you a visa, unless they already an american citizan and sure then they don't need a PHD do they. after i think 5 years of marriage you can apply for citizenship and that does require that test.

Just to tweak that slightly. It's not after 5 years of marriage. It's 5 years of having a greencard. When you marry an american citizen, as I did some years ago, a process starts that should end with a greencard if you meet all the criteria. That can take a year or more, during that time you are granted a temp greencard. So in reality it could take up to 7 years. And then you are entitled to apply for citizenship as you pointed out, but no one is entitled to citizenship, you simply are allowed to go through the process and see if you meet the criteria.
