Thunderbird Problems

hey im using thunderbird for emails the things is , i have opened a new folder to put read emails into so my inbox is empty , the thing here is older emails say 2 or 3 months ago i can open the mails but recent ones i cant , and when i click on one with an attachment icon , the icon dissapears ?? any ideas what to do
