motor insurance claim

Was hit from behind while stationary. The other driver accepted full responsibilty. Her insurance company rang today to tell me that my car had been in an accident in 2001 and this would effect my claim as the car was deemed to be beyond economical repair. I bought my car 11 months ago for 3,500 and they are only offering me 1,800. I had no idea that my car was previously in an accident. I got onto the guy I bought the car from and he had no idea either. My registration cert says the car was registered in Ireland on 1st March 2001 and Lisenced to buyer on 16th July 2001 yet the claim for damage went through on the 25th March 2001. I cant figure this out and I need to get more money for my car.

Ask them for written details. Find out who made the claim - ie was it the person who sold car to you. This is a difficult one certainly.

My mechanic has gone through the car and cannot see where the car hasbeen repaired anywhere. Considering it was a new car when the claim went in surely there would be signs of damage somewhere cos the damage must have cost alot if they thought it was too expensive to fix at the time. Think I might get a solicitor involved today?
