3g laptop no internet

    Just got a friends dell 6400 laptop with a 3g usb thing in the side.
    Its saying its connected.But no internet,cant ping anything

    Any ideas

    just found in network connections 3 usb modem,connected ,firewalled

    What Operating system is it running? HAve there been any updates installed on it?

    its winxp,,,friend just dropped it up,,its his aunties,,,dont know any history of it.

    dont know any thing about this 3g thing,,,well its not the firewall

    it Has profile name 3datamodem(default) connects
    and a profice name M,,,could be miraim for the owner ,,but wont connect
    when i try and connect under the M profile i get Error 619:A

    have you the 3 software open, what colour is the light, is it blinking, what colour and shape is the modem...

    its a usb plug with 3 on it ,,think its 3g wireless

    i dont have any software here.

    Im going to have a look tomorrow.(have some gaming and drink to finish before bed)

    Just plug in the modem and open my computer and double click the modem steup.

    It's probably on the computer somewhere, go to start, then to find, search for 3 and see does anything pop up, there also could be an icon on the desktop...

    there is no software cd, the software is on the modem itself...

    Just checking, it's definitely error 619, not 691?

    619 is usually a VPN issue (but could be anything from being out of range of the network to a SIM card being loose or not present, a USB issue if it's a dongle, having reached your download limit, almost anything, it's one of those oh-so-informative non-specific errors)

    691 is much simpler: a wrong password.
