Hows about a retro movie trailers thread

    Don't know about you but I love when I get a DVD of an older movie (70's and 80's in particular) and it has the original theatrical trailer on it hidden away in the special features somewhere.

    The way trailers were constructed back in the day is quite interesting. They weren't nearly as slick as the kind of stuff we're used to today and that is part of their charm. Most of them are usually very simple (almost naive in marketing terms) with long cuts and a narrator sounding very matter-of-fact as he describes the movie. Compare it to the "in world world .... where a hero must stand alone ..... " hyperbole we put up with today and it's almost a refreshing break from the norm.

    On the subject this also reminds also of the olden days when DVDs were things called "video tapes" and when you'd rent one of these things they have a slew of cheesy adverts for crappy movies that you'd most likely never see. Anyway, that's neither here nor there but there you go.
