    hey guys

Im just after transferring from Eircom to Perlico. What is happening is when I use my internet banking or when I am writing a email after about 2-3minutes the page expires and asks me to log in again. It doesnt happen though if I only send a quick email. This never really happened when I was with Eircom.

I rang Eircom and they said I had to contact Perilco. They didnt have much of an answer for me, except change my email address to gmail or write the email in notepad and copy and past it which I dont really want to do.

So I was told to come here and you might be able to help me out. Im using IE. Thought about using firefox but dont know if that would help. Eircom said to me that my IP's were conflicting and that I had intermittent sync problems.

    Any help would be appreciated.

that is not a problem with your internet provider it will be a problem with your browser.

when you signin to banking or email your internet provider has nothing to do with keeping you signed in, your browser stores the information that the websites gives you which allows you to stay logged in.

    what browser are you using.
do you have cookies turned on.

im posting on behalf on wheeler dealer, I was trying to fix it while at her house.

Shes using IE. Had a quick look and pretty sure the cookies were turned on. I downloaded firefox and left her email open for a while to see if it would time out and same thing happened after a couple of minutes. Do you think it has something to do with the cookies brokenarrows?

Most (all?) online banking websites and many webmail sites have an inactivity timeout for security reasons. I suggest you check the FAQs for your online banking service and webmail service to see what timeouts they have in operation before looking for other possible causes.

Yes I know the sessions timesout after a while for security reasons but not as fast when it happens on my friends computer. Is their anyway to change the timeout to make it longer or do you think there is still an issue.

ya im pretty sure its something to do with cookies

so the same thing happens with Firefox and internet explorer?
when you were installing firefox did you import settings from internet explorer?

to make sure you have cookies enabled check here

no when i installed firefox i didnt import anything so im still a bit confused. I wont be going over to her house for a few days. Work is busy and what not. So if the cookies are enabled what do I do. Disable them?

Does the problem happen with only this site? What happens if wheeler tries it on another computer?

As suggested check the browser settings relating to cookies (accept all for testing purposes), including checking the timeout/expire timer. Also check that javascript is enabled and not blocked. Another consideration is the DHCP timeout but really it shouldn't be set so low as to cause this problem, still worth checking via an ipconfig/all though.

    Update :)

I reset the internet explorer back to factory default settings. I turned down the cookies to accept all, javascript was enabled. Still after about 5minutes it timed out. Dont know what to do now guys. Any other ideas?
