    Hey lads.
Need some help and would appreciate all the help.
Bought a Dell Server SC440 last christmas when it was going cheap.
Now want to set it up as a HTPC.

    1. Looking to get a TV tuner card so i can input terestrial via aerial and also HD and SD freeview channels from a satellite dish.

    2. Guess I will also need a decent graphics card.Looking to get one with HDMI out if possible to connect to my Onkyo 606 amp.(just got from richersounds)
Will this output sound or will I need a sound card aswell.

    Thanks

    :D

A couple of things to have in mind when looking to make a htpc out of a dell server -

    - check how many PCI express slots your machine has (free)
    http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/pedge_sc440?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd

    - most good graphics cards are PCI express x16 ; sc440 does not appear to have a x16 from the spec on dell website. Look for a graphics card compatible with the PCI express slots on your machine.

    - when buying a graphics card look for a card that can do hardware h.264 decoding ; like nvidia 8600 GTX ; Radeon 2600 PRO or higher. These would be good if you are looking for a good HD experience

    - if you are short on slots on your machine and you need dvbt and dvbs, look for triple standard cards (dvbt/dvbs/pal) like Blackgold BGT3540 (needs additional internal power from PCU) or Pinnacle 7010i (which I would recommend)
