Blown up canvas prints - C&C

Like it or not, Christmas is upon us, and that for me this year means giving presents of canvas prints of my photos in a money saving scheme so cunning you could brush your teeth with it. Which (if any) of the following do you think warrant the explosive print out treatment?

Any of the photos on my fickr account are up for grabs too but I've narrowed down the list to a few that I think would suit it best.

Also, anyone remember the name of that cheap place in the states that does canvas prints and posts them out?

    2, 3, 4

would all work very well. but i think they need to be large

There is a mad 3D effect going on in No.4.

I like em all (sorry thats not much use to you) but certinly agree with stcstc. Would 3 and 4 need a bit more border space with gallery wrap around to be considered??

The company i think you were looking for were updone.com - One word of warning, they appeared to be a bit hit and miss with service and prices have gone up although they appear to be still way cheap. Given Christmas isn't too far away, it'd be a bit of a gamble at this stage i'd think. I used them myself in the earlier days and found the price / quality of the product excellent.

    The related thread is here

At the end of the thread i have added a summary of all posts! (bloody long thread)

He's too humble to mention himself but stcstc has done work for a lot of people around the boards community and there's never been a criticism - good reviews infact. Probably a bit dearer than updone but you'd be getting a gauranteed delivery and quality. Another boards user (new) dmorris is listed in the thread linked above so it may also be worth checking out, but i've no recommendations being posted about him as he's new. But might be worth a pm or a call.

    Good luck with it.

    3 and 4.

I've used updone a few times and the results have been good to very good

No. 3 and perhaps No. 4
The rest are too flat and wouldn't have enough impact.

Huh? Have you ever priced a large canvas print???

3 or 4 would be my choice. Brilliant images.

I'm sure they'll look great on canvas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,077 ✭✭✭dakar

    3 or 4 definitely.

It would be interesting to see which way up the recipient would choose to hang the footprint! A psychologist would probably read quite a lot into it:).

I'd go with 3 or 4 as well.

Is it just me, or does no.2 initially look like, eh, a number 2 :o

No 3 for me. Gorgeous photo and colours. I've had a canvas done by stcstc and was very happy with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,196 ✭✭✭PaulieC

3&4, prints by stcstc. Many many times better than updone or reads. Kindof blows away your cheap idea though :D

Numero trio for me, very nice shot!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,262 ✭✭✭stcstc

    thanks for the recommendations guys

i think out of them the one that would stand out the best would be the footprint

number 3 would look good also as an acrylic

No 3 and 4. I will try that one day when my pics have improved.

Just to throw the cat amongst the pigeons, I'd go for 2 and 4 :)

Can I have kgillers if he doesn't want it? :D

I must be such an oddball because if you were giving me a print of any of those I'd love #1.
Can't believe nobody else has gone for it!

Meanie. If I didn't want the present my non-existent brother was giving me for Christmas, I'd give it to you! :(

2,3 and 4 I like in particular, great detail and colours, well done.

I feel your frustration Ricky. This board has gone very PC recently and I don't like it. A bit of harmless slagging never hurt anyone. You dick ;)

By the way, thanks for the opinions: looks like 3 and 4 it is. I actually like number 1 myself but it might be better as a large framed print rather than a canvas

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,344 ✭✭✭Thoie

I think there's a delicate balance between gentle slagging and finishing every post with derogatory comments about your mother (your mother, not mine - mine's a saint ;) )

Perhaps we can all assume that unless the OP actually says they take offense at something, that they took it in the good humoured manner it was meant? And if you do take offense, mention it mildly, rather than going off on a rant about rgiller's maternal relatives?

    Alternatively, it's pistols at dawn...

if you take offence at any post please report it.

Rather than starting a fork in the thread which isn't fair to the original poster.

    That would be Internal Affairs.

Basically moderators, admins, and sysmods do - also people can bring a moderation issue if they feel aggrieved through the feedback forum.

Moderators can and do get banned too - seen one happen over last weekend.

Now - can this thread come back on topic please - Opinions on canvas prints please.

3 or 4 would be great inho!

I would feel a bit strange giving someone a pic I took as a present, I would feel that I was blowing my own trumpet as if to say I took this great pic be grateful, I have bought other peoples work as presents and felt a lot more comfortable.

    Sorry if thats off topic!

Damn you people: I'm going to report the whole lot of you for off topic discussions

    Only joking, I don't mind :D
