    Hi,
What sort of oil do you put into a chainsaw for lubing up the blade? Is it just the same oil that you use in the mix for the petrol?

    Thanks

No its not the same as the petrol mix, that's two stroke oil.

Get Chain Oil from any good agristore. Can be got in gallon cans and is not that expensive. The oil is special that has special adhesion qualities that suit its purpose.

You can usually get it in any of the big DIY stores such as Woodies or B&Q as well.

If you want to be environmentally conscious you can use Arborol, which is a vegetable oil based chain lubricant, you dilute it 1:4 with water.
It keeps the chain and bar much cooler than normal high tack chain oil.
I use it and find it very good to use, it doesn't have that sickening smell of oil either.
It is made for Oregon which is one of the largest manufacturers of chainsaw chain in the world, so it comes recommended.

There's special chain oil for lubricating the the chain. Try your local garden/forestry centre or hardware. I'd recommend either Elf or Finol chain Oil.
If you don't use the right oil, you'll risk either ruining the chain and bar and/or causing the edge to on the chain to wear too quickly. It's better to have your chain over lubricated, so don't worry if it's putting out a lot of oil.
Also make sure to use to correct safety gear too!!! Chainsaw's are extremely dangerous equipment in the wrong hands. Get yourself a muff and mess visor set to protect your ears and face, wear plenty of layers of clothing and gloves to slow the chain down if it comes into contact with your body. Your local garden/forestry centre should have everything you need. Think safety first. I deal with chainsaws everyday and even the most professional users have battle scars.
Ifr you need any more advice, don't hestitate to ask.
