    Hi All,

Id like to get a wider Sigma lens but Im confused by what is or is not compatible with the d70. I know they do nikon and canon mount and all of that is self explanatory but are there certain lens made specifically for the full frame nikon?

And If a lens is compatible with a Nikon full frame camera does that make it compatible with the smaller sensor on the Nikon d70 and if not whats the difference?

    Thanks guys/gals.

    Hi Bo

I too have a D70. I think you may have it the wrong way around. Pretty much any lens that fits a full frame Nikon will fit the D70 - there are exotic exceptions, mainly from the old manual focus vintage.

On the other hand, there are many lenses which are intended solely for the DX Crop Factor Nikons - eg D70, D90, D300. For example I have the Sigma 10-20mm zoom lens. This lens will physically mount on say a full frame D3, but it the corners will have no image - there will only be a central circle with the image.

Bo, there's a website called ByThom which has some Nikon (or Nikkor) lens compatability charts here. Sometimes offline for some bizarre reason, maybe while he's updating or something.

Just to echo what the lads are saying here, pretty much any modern Nikkor lens or non-Nikkor with a Nikon F-mount such as the Sigma mentioned above will work with your D70. Only when you go back to the ancient pre-AI lenses will you start to have compatibility propblems. AI lenses will mount and shoot fine but you won't have any metering. AF-D and AF-S lenses whether specified "G" or not will work fine.

    Yup, what they said^.

If it's a wide zoom, you're looking for, I can heartily recommend the Sigma 10-20mm. It spends a lot of time on my D300, as it did on my old D50. Great lens and it will give you a new perspective on 'wide'!:)

Obviously it works a treat for landscapes and big skies, but I keep finding interesting viewpoints with it that just don't suggest themslves with regular mid-length zooms.
