There is someone who is working in a supermarket and like all the people working there they are on a contract called flexi part time even though they all want to be classified as full time.

The hourly wage is E11 and it is commonplace to get 16 hours per week. This works out to be less than the 197 jsa weekly allowance and much less when the rent supplement is factored in.

There is a rumor that the social will make up the balance to the total of E197 in a situation like this if the person can prove they are seeking full time work and the hours just are not there.

Obviously the social are trying to make it as difficult as possible to get any benefits at the minute and the last budget did not help this situation so if you know of this scheme and its entitlements can you give me any advice on how to get on the scheme.

If they are looking for fulltime work, but can only get parttime, they are generally entitled to sign on for JB for the days they are not working on - however, are these hours spread out across the week, ie perhaps a 4 hr shift spread across 4 days? If they did 2 full days (8hrs x 2) they would be entitled to sign on for the other 4 days they are looking for work, meaning they would get €197/6 * 4.
I would ignore the rent supplement portion of things; as they are working they won't be entitled to RS, and not everyone who is unemployed is entitled to it either in any case, so discount that from your figures.

BUT if the hours are spread across the week, no matter how few hours you work on each day it is still counted as a full day you were working, so they couldn't sign on if it was the case they were working say, 3 x 4 hr shifts, and 2 x 2hr shifts.
