    Hi,

Would marriage to an Irish national by a Romanian with no current work permit (and never having one) result in a work permit/visa being issued?

Does anybody know the process involved and what can be done?

    Thanks.

Why would you need a work permit, Romania has been part of the EU for almost 2 years..

Romanians are not allowed to work in Ireland without a work permit eth0_ even thought they are European Union members.

nutzu, I'd contact http://www.immigrantcouncil.ie/ or some similar organization.

Also I heard somewhere this doesn't apply to contract jobs...

Didn't realise that. Why aren't the Roma gypsies automatically deported then? I doubt they get a work permit for begging and thieving..

I know a Russian girl who married an Irish man. It was quite a while (months) before she got a work permit.

 So anyway, back on topic...

Thanks sprinklesspanky, I do plan on going down to the Citizen's Information Center, but if anybody has any definite answer or experiences I'd like to hear.

I'm genuinely curious why people with Romanian citizenship who (on the whole, i'm sure there are some who are honest) are begging on the streets, thieving and running scams are not deported?

Back on topic
Contact the immigrant council as already suggested, I imagine it's all done on a case by case basis.

However, Romania is an EEA country. According to this the Romanian spouse won't even need a permit if married to a citizen of the EU25.
Romanian Nationals who do NOT need an Employment Permit:

A Romanian national who entered the State on or after 1st January 2007 and is the spouse/dependant of an EU national*, other than a Romanian or Bulgarian national.

    * Please note that both the Romanian national and their spouse must be resident in the State as a family unit.
