    Post of the day contender?

"Put the bunny back in the box". Con Air is high gloss nonsense at its best.Truly terrible and enjoyably so.

Its a great popcorn movie and is really entertaining but hardly one of the best films ever. All the cast were really good in their roles. Loved Steve Buscemi character Greene.

An absolute classic. What more can you ask for than a ludicrous plot with a cast who should all know better?

I don't mind a bit of OTT fun, but I'd hardly compare Con Air to e.g. Speed, or even the US remake of The Italian Job. I'd say my fave in that genre is Demolition Man, which manages to combine wham-bam futuristic action with some sly social commentary that looks more and more relevant today, and even manages to include a Denis Leary rant. The Sixth Day (a.k.a. Arnie gets cloned) is also underrated IMHO.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

I won't lie - I enjoyed the movie quite a bit when it came out - despite it having one of my most despised actors aboard (one Mister N Cage *shudder*). But to call it anything other than enjoyable CRAP is a misnomer :)

while i think that the op is overexadurating...Con Air is still a tremendous film. definatley one of the best action films...but not one of the best films ever

I think someone is trying to play wind up merchant - "lets watch the film-nerds go nuts". Even as popcorn explosion fests go, Con Air isn't the best there is. Mind you, I'm not sure what would be ...

The movie is notable only for having Nicholas Cages 4th worst haircut in a movie.

    3rd - GhostRider
    2nd - Adaptation
    1st - Vampires Kiss

And what, pray tell, do you think is the greatest movie of all time?

Probably some artsy fartsy thing like "along came Polly".

Con Air is artistically, emotionally and technically unrivaled. Cage, Malkovich and Buschemi give rousing performances, the film is rich in symbolism (the furry toy symbolising cage's characters love for his child), the cinematography is stunning and the plot is fantastically paced and realised with some of the finest stunt work I have ever seen.

Well deserving of its seven Oscars and a worthy contender for greatest of all time.

    :D

love con air , malkovich chews the scenery , marcelus wallace is as usual great , we also get john cusack playing his usual quirky intelligent guy

oh and have you heard of the rule which applies to jerry bruckheimer action movies , the rule where the higher up the chain of command , the dumber the charechter , so it goes with colm meaney playing an incredibly obnoxious but extremly likeable charechter

I love Con Air too. Great script by Scott 'Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead' Rosenberg.

It's easily one of the best popcorn, blow-things-up Hollywood action movies.

Never a truer word spoken. Con Air has literally everything going for it.

Heart wrenching intro, comradery between a black and white men in the prison(need to see the deleted scenes to realise the full extent) Rivalry between Meaney and Cusack. Colourful prisoner profiles, in-film popculture references, very entertaining plane hijack. Power struggles, racial tension. Massive shoot out, (and whoever questions why a prisoner transportation jet would be carrying rocket propelled grenades, high powered shotguns & assualt rifles can f*ck right off) air chase, crash landing in vegas and then a fire bridage chase. Wonderful.

only a film I'll watch if it's on tv, would never take it off the shelf to watch it.

best bit is when Meaney shouts "THIS IS A SITUATION THAT NEEDS TO GET UN-F*CKED, RIGHT NOW!" I clap and cheer a little every time I hear that line

i love that guy...no matter what he's in! deff one of his best moments!

I LOVE IT!!! Pure mindless action.

Cars hanging off planes, planes crashing in vegas, nic cage getting shot and not even flinching...amazing.

And the lines in it, A-MAZING.

"Where you going?" Im going to save the f**king day.

Car hanging off the back of a plane "On any other day that might seem strange!"

"Define irony. A bunch of idiots dancing on an airplane to a song made famous by a band........that died in a plane crash!"

Also i love that split second when Cage and Cusack spot Cyrus making his get away and both jump on the cop bikes at the same and have that split second where they look at each other and even tho they say nothing to each other its just a look that SCREAMS "Lets get this motherf**ker!!!" Thats when i clap hands and start whoop and hollering!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:

One thing ive never understood tho, Cyrus is on the Vegas strip but after the crash he lands on a construction site?!??!?! Whats that about?!?!?

Still tho, 3 thumbs up from here!! (i cut off my friends hand for the 3rd thumb!!)

Chief O'Brien (our own Colm Meaney) ,makes the film as good as the likes of Metropolis, Battleship Potemkin, Gone With the Wind, On the Waterfront, Ben Hur.
It is a well known fact Con Air has gone down in the annals as one of the greatest films ever known.

It is not as good as commando though

Thats a fact it's not as good as commando.
    Now THERE'S a movie.

    Congo is better

While iam a popcorn lover of the cheesey action movie, con air let me down! MAybe it was the mullet on the cage man im not sure.
But "The rock" now there was a switch brain off for 2hours!
Face off "i could eat a peach for hours" is another one. (What ever happened to the daughter from face off she was smoking!)

Demolition Man is up there with the greatest movie off all time, what's this talk of citizen kane.

Transformers was the same for me lots of stuff getting blown up :D

Not many movies of this calibre come out every year. But when they do, there is whooping and holliering in the aisles of cinemas!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,807 ✭✭✭speedboatchase

Demolition Man! Demolition Man makes Congo look like ....a credible film  Love demolition man!

Rat burgers with Dennis Leary, whats your boggle, the 3 seashells! Way better than Con Air, here's some quotes:

    John Spartan: Bad aim, Blondie!
Simon Phoenix: Spartan? John Spartan? Aw ****, they let anybody into this century! What the hell you doing here?

John Spartan: You're gonna regret this the rest of your life... both seconds of it.

T.V. Reporter: [to John Spartan] How can you justify destroying a $7 million dollar mini mall to rescue a girl whose ransom was only $25,000 dollars?
    Little Girl: **** YOU, LADY!
    John Spartan: Ha! Good answer!
