I noticed some (very small) rust spots on my hunting knife blade the other day. I was able to remove most of it with some WD-40. Can anyone recommend a good method of removing rust spots? I heard steel wool is good, but wouldn't that scratch the balde?

A very fine steel wool and some thick gun oil does a fairly good job .
WD-40 isn't the best stuff for rust removal I've seen guns cleaned with the stuff and it aint pretty.

Use 0000 steel wool with a bit of gun oil. I use oooo with oil (not gun oil) or paste wax to polish wood and it works very well.

If the blade is polished smooth. Use peek to polish it out.

Toothpaste and a buff on a bench grinder...brings mine up like new.I have a custom knife made from carbon steel not stainless so it marks up easy and the toothpaste and buff brings it up nice and shinny....
