Indonesia - 6 weeks

Im heading off to Indonesia for Xmas. Can anybody recomend any places to visit. Not sure as of yet whether to begin in Sumatra and head towards Bali, or start in Bali.

RATM

Ive never been on Sumatra but Ive heard Lake Toba is absolutely beautiful. I have been east of Bali as far as Komodo and Rinca Islands. If you like chilled out islands then check out Gili Trawangan -there are three Gili isles just off the coast of Lombok - trawangan is known as the backpacker island and has nice chilled out bungalows and good beaches. Its tiny, you can walk around the whole island in 2 hours but its a cool little place.
Also recommended is taking a boat trip to Komodo or Rinca Island to see the Komodo dragons. If you scuba dive PM me and I'll tell you about a couple of world class dive sites nearby.
Another well worth while thing to do is to go see the volcanic lakes of Kelimutu- they are three lakes beside each other that are all a different colour- black, brown and green when I was there but they change colour every few years.

I seemed to have done the exact same route as RATM so also can't comment on west of Bali (Sumatra & Java).

Bali - Lombok - Gilis - Flores & Komodo/Rinca - Bali is what I did within 4 weeks and I loved every moment of it, Flores probably being the highlight.

Thank you for that info. Sounds great, loads to do. I will do some more research & will try to stick to most of those places yee recommended.
