hi all, i'm sorry if i'm repeating a previous thread but i wanted to tell you about a positive experience i had with my pet insurance co.
i have a 4 yr old springer and took out pet insurance over 3 yrs ago but am very fortunate that i never really needed it before this. my dog had to get a growth removed from his paw so between the operation, bandages, antibiotics, painkillers and lab tests the bill came to 350 euro. the vet filled in the claim forms for me and less than 2 weeks later i recieved a cheque from allianz, no questions asked, no hassle.
insurance costs just a few euro a month and i must say its worth the peace of mind i have now if anything ever happens again.

We have Allianz cover too. Have never used it yet thankfully, but it does offer a good deal of piece of mind. :)

You can ring Allianz up and get a quote as it all depends on the age of your dog and whether it has any illnesses, vicious tendencies etc. My dog is 3 years old, no history of illnesses and I am paying about €12 a month, €23 for two dogs combined. The cover is very good, you can read about it on their website.

she needed an operation on her leg last year and i would just hate for the cost of the insurance to be sky high because of it as she is fine now

I would imagine that if the operation was due to the injury, that should not matter ( dogs get injured all the time), but if it was due to illness (like cancer) I would say it would affect the cost of insurance. I guess the best you can do is to get a quote and see. Good luck!

In my experience pet insurance doesn't penalise you for prior conditions - it simply won't cover them, at all, ever, or cover any illnesses relating to them.

For instance, dog gets hit by car, front right leg has to be pinned and set, costs lots. THEN owner gets insurance.

Dog develops infection in leg and pins have to be removed - insurance won't cover it. Pins have to be replaced in second operation - insurance won't cover it. Leg heals, dog gets early onset arthritis in leg - insurance won't cover treatment or medications. Dog develops some other illness that can be linked to the accident - insurance won't cover it.

Dog develops kidney infection in later years - insurance covers that, because they can't pin it on the car accident. :D

    Another +1 for Allianz.
My Mam's dog was run over by a truck this time last year. They brought him to the local vets and they looked at him but could do nothing for him. They advised to get him over to a specialist in Rathfarnham to see if there was anything they could do. The dog has a couple of operations didn't make it through the final operation and while claiming on the insurance a few weeks later she was upset while explaining the circumstances. The lady she was dealing with in Allianz was ever so nice to her and even had a little note in with the claim chq asking how she when it was refunded. I thought that was so lovely.
