Hi people Its been a while since I last posted here so heres my question.
Iv 2000euro to spend on lens, now I mostly shoot protrait and iv in my bag 50/f1.4 85/f1.8 and a standard zoom. I was leaning towards the 70-200/f2.8 or the 24-70/f2.8. What im looking for is more flexibility rather than the in your face style?

    Thanks in advance
    Jonathan

For portraits, I think the 24-70mm f/2.8 would be a more useful lens. Well worth checking out.

I've got the 24-70 2.8 (albeit I got a dud copy, which is very unusual, that front focuses and needs to be sent off for repair) and I've got the Nikon 80-200 2.8 AF-D version. I LOVE the 80-200 2.8. It's super sharp and fast if not a bit of a beast to carry around. They can be picked up at reasonable prices too (Berminghams had one, an AF-S version for €460 in the sale I think?). The 70-200 2.8 is marginally better I imagine.

You could have both lenses if you got the 80-200 and 24-70 for €2000 if you couold live without the longer lens not having VR?

The only small gripe I'd have with the 80-200 is its closest focusing distance is a bit too long sometimes, not that it would put me off it at all.

I've got the 105 2.8 VR macro too (which doesn't stay at 2.8 the closer you focus...it stops down to 3.8 or 4.8 at closest focus distance) and it too is a fantastic lens. Nice for portaits and amazing for macro too. I've been using it alot more lately and loving it.

    Good luck!

    Pete.
