What's your lowest gross round?

Might be an interesting thread to see what kind of scores people have put together relative to their handicaps? Always wondered what handicap range of people have shot sub-par rounds on Championship Courses both casually (with a witness of course and using one ball only) and how low they may have scored under par, what they were playing off at the time etc. Stableford score could be included if there was no gross record worth mentioning...

Apologies if it has been done but I haven't seen a thread like it before. I'll get the ball rolling:

Lowest Casual Round (Green Tees) - 75 on Par 71 playing off 16.
Lowest competitive round - 82 on Par 71 playing off 17.

Impressive. I assume you were low single figures at the time? How often have you shot sub-par? 1-10, 10+?

I shot five under twice in practice about 8 years ago... i was off 3 at the time. Also did it earlier this year.

I shot two under in competition earlier this year, off 5. (i stopped playing for a few years and handicap has gone up!)

I've only shot under par in competition a couple of times, but in practice i've done it a good few times now. I always seem to blow it in competitions!!

I'm playing off +1. The good play comes and goes......this year was a bit better than normal.

Imagine giving shots to the course.....

For me its level par in competition (off 5), -2 in practice (off 3 at the time).
I shot a -1 in Kilkenny years ago before I had a handicap when my previous best before that was +5 and I most commonly shot +12 or so at that time... Kilkenny used to be easier than it is now and was short in Summer.

Since I have had an official handicap, I don't think I've ever been more than 5 shots below it (yet!).

76 in Hermitage off the back markers in some youth tournament many years ago. Haven't been able to better that score since despite my best efforts!

Forgive me if I'm wrong Licksy, but is that not the point of a handicap??

Some of the scores posted here so far would lead me to say well done cough *bandit* cough, then again they were probably while these guys were young and handicaps weren't a true reflection of ability.

My best competitive is 75 on a par 71 off 8.
Non-competitive around the same I think.

    Yes and no....
My handicap is certainly accurate in that on my good days I can dip below it (only happened once this year), often I'll play to the buffer, and some days I'm over it.

It's interesting that I have only beaten it by 5 shots because I feel I should be able to do more on odd occasions. I have played 11 holes in -4 while off 4 or 5 so I think I should be capable of shooting a 66 or something once (in a lifetime!).
It's kind of like on tour, where pros will often shoot 68, 69 but once in a while someone will fire a 62.
My one off mad round was -1 when I was probably the equivalent of a 10 handicapper and this round was 6 shots better than my previous best round.

65 in practice in Glen of the Downs - I just couldn't miss. I wish I'd have played Augusta that day.

68 in competition in Ashbourne Golf Club - Almost had a bogey free round till I three putted the par 3 16th, I still have nightmares about that 3/4 footer.

    My lowest number was a 63 on a par 68, -5.
    -4, 68 on par 72 a few times.
    -5, 29 in a nine holer.
Made 5 birds and an eagle, no bogeys in a match.

73 (1 over) in October just gone.

    2 under off the whites
    level par off the blues
    current handicap 5.

Not in the same league as other posters here but...
81 (last year) to win a club Medal playing off 18 (nett 63)
82 this year to retain same Medal off 15 (nett 67)

Interestingly enough, after a relatively successful year, I broke my handicap just 3 times! I was only less than 31pts / 5 strokes off just once.
